Fellow members of the community, I am currently a student in St. Johns studying Film and Video Production. As part of my course I have to complete a mini documentary and submit it for my end of year work. My chosen subject is Homosexuality. Of course at first glance you look at this and begin to think it's a typical documentary which focuses on the negative/stereotypical side of being gay .i.e. the stresses of coming out etc, hate crime. While I will be covering this, what I hope to cover moreso is the normality, the acceptance and positivity that goes with being gay in modern society. While there is also negativity attached from the straight point of view, I believe it is a diminishing ignorance with the integration of a once segregated community into a mainstream "integrated" world. I wish to present love, from the gay side of the coin, to present working life, social life, coming out and the relief that comes with it. Too often do regular documentaries pigeon hole the gay world as being a lonely, promiscuous, disease filled world where the reality is far from it. Admittedly there is a certain caution to come with the sexual side of things but that also comes with the heterosexual lifestyle. I also find the representation of the gay community in media to be greatly flawed, in movies they are usually superficial, promiscuous and eventually die of AIDS or troubled rent boys, where as in chat shows they are presented as light comic relief, there is no real and identifiable character which can be related too as a beacon of encouragement. And these are the types of things I'd like to talk about. So if you are interested in being interviewed and think you have something to add, get in touch. What I am looking for; Counsellors - Anyone who deals with gay people on a regular basis in a supportive way. Couples - Both gay and lesbian of any age, preferably in long-lasting relationships Young Single People Older Single People If this appeals to you, please don't hesitate to get in touch via my email, edward982@gmail.com with the words "GAY MINI DOCUMENTARY" in the subject field. I hope that while doing this documentary I will gain enough material to use this documentary in the Cork Film Festival next year, as well as a possible supportive documentary online, to help encourage people young and old to come out, understand or come to terms with the gay sexuality. Thanks, Ed PS - In addition people who come forward and would like to contribute but wish to remain anonymous, this can also be arranged and images and sound can be altered to add to the confidential nature of the interview.
