A gay model was dumped as the face of a major chain store after she refused to sleep with its photographic manager, a tribunal heard yesterday. The 26-year-old claims her career is in ruins after she was also dropped by a leading model agency as a result of the incident. She claims that the manager was "infatuated" with her and wanted to start a relationship. The woman is said to have bombarded her with text messages, invited her to dinner and regularly talked about sex toys. One text - referring to a job in South Africa - allegedly said: "Just booking the Cape Town flights. You better be nice to me until we all go." On a photoshoot in Norfolk, the tribunal heard, the manager asked the model to her hotel room and tried to kiss her. The model claimed that the manager, who had "considerable influence" in fashion, implied her career depended on sleeping with her. The girlfriend of the model heard about the advances, the London tribunal was told, and interrupted another shoot "raving and ranting". Security was called, the photographic manager fled, and the girlfriend was removed from the set. The model is claiming sex discrimination against the store, her own former manager and her agency. It is claimed by the photo boss - who denies discrimination - that the model was "sexually forward", flirted, and groped her breast during a trip to the cinema. The model, her agency, her boss and the high street store cannot be named for legal reasons. The case continues.
