I am a HUGE Buffy/Angel fan despite the fact all my friends think I'm weird -P But being in the States I get to see everything first run. What season are they up to in the UK? Oh and she's died before, I remember that she full filled the Masters prophecy and died at the end of the 1st or 2nd season but Zander brought her back. Which lead to the reason we have 2 Slayers in the world now... but I'm rambling.

Anyhoo, Season 7 of Buffy has been confirmed as the lasy Season due to flagging ratiiings(god only knows why).
So, I do think they'll kill her off once and for all at the end of this.
I mean, she's died twice.
I hope Willow gets her own show, you know, the erotic adventures of Willow in Cork, Ireland, in Slayer's home...

Dear God no.
Rumours about Sarah Michelle Gellar's departure have been rife since the show switched to upn in the States... I think it's a wage negotiation ploy.
That said... season 7 premiere wasn't great. Now I did get James Marsters with ultra cute hair AND A SOUL but... it just wasn't as Buffy tastic as past seasons.
A Faith spin-off would be cool but dear god kill the Key NOW!!

NO DAWN SLAYER!!!! I'm thinking whoever was called when Buffy died the second time (there are now 3 slayers) will come into play. Buffy will go live her life cause there are others to take up the slack now. Granted Faith is in Jail, but there is another out there who can do what ONE person is supposed to be doing anyway. Slayers supposedly don't live to old age anyway...
As far as spin-offs go... I heard that there was a Giles spinnoff in the UK... was their any merit to that rumor?!

ooh yeah. i thought Kanesha was before Faith. or am I imagining it? am a bit hazy on buffy details these days.
anyways, ignoring even that. kanesha was before buffy jumped off that big tall thing into that other world to save this world and close that portally thingy(obviously my powers of description have vanished), so since buffy died and was brought back doesnt that mean another slayer should be turning up?
please god let some get faith out of jail. that series really needs her.

I do wish they would address the whole situation with her coming back wrong. But the thing is she DID die and for real both times. The fact that the 3rd time she was resurrected and she's not completly quite right doesn't discount that fact that she died. And how can there be a clause about death? I mean come one, I don't think that they thought slayers could be resurrected otherwise the other slayers wouldn't be called.
Maybe the PTB caught on didn't call another slayer the 2nd time. But doesn't anyone else find it odd that she still has all her strenght and slayer powers but there are more than one of her. I alway thought that when one died the powers got passed on to the next chosen one.

and i think she deserves a girlfriend with a decent character. tara never got to do anything in her own right until they broke up! she was never as well-written as oz or cordelia and consequently it was difficult to know what willow saw in her. i kept waiting for the episode where it would become apparent that tara actually had opinions or a sense of humour or a wierd hobby or something, anything, that would elevate her from "willow's girlfriend" to "tara". it never really happened.

I'm beginning to like Dawn. She's actually becoming(God love me) a bit attractive as she's getting older.
She's around my age so its ok for me!!
Hahahaha!! You're all too old!!
And as for Tara,I agree that she wasn't much of a character.
If you're looking for someone fiery and witty then Tara wasn't thay girl.
But she was sweet, and nice, and ordinary, and that's why Willow loved her. Cos she loved Willow, and she was there for her, and she was caring, and motherly.
And she made the best damn pancakes in the world.
She made Willow happy beyond reason, so that's why I'll miss Tara from Buffy. She was the rock in the Summer's house. She was the one they ran to when things got emotionally bad. Dawn, Willow, Buffy.
Even Anya in Season 6's premiere needed reassurance from Tara about Xander's safety.
So, I liked her. She wasn't witty, or fiery, she was just Tara.

she was those things, but not enough. certainly not enough to make a real impression.
my problem isn't with tara exactly, it's with the way she was written. she wasn't there enough, she never became an essential and inedpendent part of things the way that oz, anya and cordelia did. cordelia was a really well-written character - especially when you hated her and she made you squirm. oz was independent and interesting without being overpowering - it was a tough balance but they did it. tara was just inoffensive. i didn't hate her, but i didn't love her either, and more to the point - i didn't know why willow loved her. we never saw enough of her humour and flirtyness until it was rather late in the piece. why did wil fall for her? that's what wasn't convincingly done for me. i always knew what she liked about oz, and why she wanted to be with him, why did it have to be the so cryptic with tara?
Slayer

Willow was drawn to her quietness, her intelligence.
I think Willow was a little on the rebound as well, and Tara's timing was impeccable.
I would think Willow enjoyed being the dominant person in a relationship for once.
I mean, Willow was so quiet pre- Season 4. And so babyish. Tara was just someone who gave her the opportunity to be the outspkoen one.
Tara was a friend to Willow because of the wicca. She became her lover because of her charm, her sweetness, her complete and total wish for Willow's happiness.
When Faith was in Buffy's body, and taunting Tara, where a lot of people would turn away from Willow, she saw what was wrong and she fixed it. Willow saw that, and she loved Tara for that.
Tara was smart, and caring, and patient, and she was gentle, and not pressurising, which was exactly what Willow needed after Oz.
Their relationship then deepened because of Tara's acceptance into and usefullness to the Scooby Gang, and her complete willingness to help, to love Willow, to be part of the gang.
Tara was always going to be a mystery, even the Scooby Gang didn't know what she was all about.
In Season Five's "Family" they say how they don't even know what to get her for her birthday.
She had to be mysterious, otherwise her role in Season four's "Restless" would have been pointless.
We needed to know little, to move the plot along.

I likes her (but ya know that). I mean, not as a Big Crazy Longterm Relationship person, (cuz duh, that wouldn't work), but I thinks our willow could have a lotta fun with her.
And she does do other things. She gives out to the other Potentials, drinks cocktails, pretends to have the flu, is faintly able to kick ass...
I dunno. Me and the roomy were having a big argument about this, mainly based on the fact that SHE thiks K has no personality and is just there to be Willow's gf, and anyhoo, Will wouldn't be over Tara yet, and NOBODY coudl replace Tara cuz we love tara oh so much and miss tara and tara was so sweet and bla bla.

I luv the way cordelia has developed through Angel, and the romance that was developing between them. I hope they get that back on track. Fred and Gunn are just plain annoying, they should have kept doyle in it. Did you all know the actor that played Doyle killed himself.
As for Tara I thought she was a brilliant character full of personality and charm. I can't understand why they felt the need to kill her off. I havn't seen Willows new squeese but already I'm biased.

Yeah, I like Cordelia, she's come a long way since her days as the bitchy prom queen. Agree also with your appraisal of Fred and Gunn, annoying gimps. Buffy We Hardly Knew Ye -- by Nikki Stafford
She has died twice, fallen in love with her vampire enemies and changed pop culture along the way. As Buffy the Vampire Slayer draws to a close, the show's fierce fans -- from teenagers to academics -- mourn the passing of a legend
"If the apocalypse comes, beep me." And with those immortal words, a legend was born. Or, actually, a teenaged Slayer was defying her Watcher by dating a cute guy rather than fighting the forces of darkness. Same diff.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a show that was never supposed to last.
It had a silly title, an unlikely premise, and was based on a movie box-office flop. Its title still draws snickers from non-viewers, who don't realize they are ridiculing what is arguably the most intelligent and best-written series on television today, if not the past decade. Yet that same title contains the very essence of the show It's a drama laced with comedy, just as a fluffy name, Buffy, is juxtaposed with a rather ominous signifier, Vampire Slayer.
After seven years of pain, pain, a few laughs, and more pain, Buffy is about to stake her last vampire. The final four episodes will run Tuesdays at 8 p.m., beginning next week.
It all began in March, 1997, when Buffy the Vampire Slayer was slotted in as a midseason replacement on the WB network. The show was about a girl, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, who was the Chosen One, the one who was destined to fight evil. It's the stuff of comic books.
Except this girl didn't want to be chosen. She wanted to be a normal teenager, and for the first season she dealt with the usual perils of teen angst -- divorced parents, new friends, problems at school, and a confusing love life -- alongside the not-so-usual perils -- having to patrol graveyards at night, discovering her boyfriend is a 242-year-old vampire, and trying to stop a nest of vampires from opening the mouth of Hell and bringing forth the apocalypse. By the end of the first season, she knew that her destiny was inescapable.
Now, seven years later, Buffy has grown up. She's killed her boyfriend (but he's feeling much better now), lost her mother to a brain aneurysm, acquired a kid sister, sacrificed herself to save the world, and crawled out of her own grave. As one character has commented, "I suddenly find myself needing to know the plural of 'apocalypse.'"
Now, she faces perhaps the biggest threat the gang has ever seen -- a malignant non-corporeal entity that embodies the world's most primal evil -- and in the process viewers have watched Buffy grow from a 16-year-old girl into a 22-year-old woman, and suffered with her along the way.
Buffy is different from other shows on television. It might only have about five million viewers every week, yet its cultural significance far outweighs its seemingly small audience. In contrast, shows such as ER or The West Wing, both well-written, well-acted programs with four times the viewership, are not considered worthy of study and fan dissection, certainly not to the extent that Buffy or its spinoff show, Angel, might be.
On dozens of Web sites, its fans dissect everything from whether the lovesick, formerly evil vampire Spike is a proper consort for Buffy, to the criminal neglect that the show has faced from the awards establishment (even its best episodes, such as the near-silent Hush or the all-musical Once More, With Feeling have been ignored by the Emmys). Famously, Buffy also has a devoted fan base among academics, who parse its every shot and line of dialogue for cultural significance.
Buffy is the subject of four books of academic essays, and in October, 2002, fans from around the world gathered at the University of East Anglia in England to hear more than 50 papers on the "Buffyverse" delivered by academics. Topics ranged from "Queering the Bitch Spike, Transgression, and Erotic Empowerment" to "Yeats's Entropic Gyre and Season Six of Buffy the Vampire Slayer." So what happened to the idea of this being a juvenile television show?
What sets Buffy apart is the writing. Joss Whedon, the creator of the show, had a vision of a series that was dramatic and mythic but still contained a lot of humour. Along the way, he developed an original language that found its way into the vocabulary of his viewers. He mapped out a seven-year arc for the show that he and his staff have followed religiously for the show's duration, with a few pit stops along the way. As such, the series has always had a forward momentum, a feeling that everything that has happened has had a reason.
David Fury, writer-director and co-executive producer on Buffy and consulting producer and writer on Angel (most fans will recognize him more readily as the Mustard Man from Once More, With Feeling) says the perception of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a pop-culture icon was a bit of a surprise at first. "Nobody sets out to be a cultural phenomenon," he says. "I can't imagine that Joss ever imagined that it would be that, but he's enormously gratified that it has, that what he set out to do has been recognized by the intelligentsia, and it's very rewarding for us. It feels really good to know we're respected like that."
This season, the show is going back to seasons one through six and using all of the knowledge viewers have gained over the years to bring it to a mind-blowing climax. Whedon has rewarded his loyal fans by bringing up unresolved events that happened years ago and finally offering an explanation for them. However, in doing so, he has made this a show that has become impenetrable to new viewers. This season the ratings have been lower, because while the adult viewership has expanded due to Buffy's darker and more complex plots, the teen viewership -- the staple of UPN -- has dropped (The show is carried on City TV stations in Canada).
But because UPN is one of the smaller networks, ratings don't really matter. "We don't register [the fact the ratings have dropped] because we're just doing the show as best we can, like we always have, and we know our fans and we know we're not a show based on ratings," Fury says.
Aimee Grosso, a fan from Chesterfield, Mich., believes the reason the show is so popular is because the writers "give the fans what they 'need' rather than what they 'want.' "
One factor that often kills good shows is when relationships are requited; when Mulder and Scully got together on The X-Files, for example, the tension was gone, and the show lost its viewers. But on Buffy, as much as the viewers want to see Buffy and her erstwhile mortal enemy Spike get together, the writers realize that what will be more intriguing to viewers in the long run is to make the characters suffer, doubt each other, and show their worst sides to one another before deciding if they should start a relationship.
Spike is a witty, generous, funny guy who truly cares for Buffy. Or at least the "man" part of him does. Spike (played by James Marsters) may be in love with Buffy, but he's a vampire with a demon trapped inside him along with the man. One minute he's pledging his everlasting love to Buffy, and the next his demon side emerges and he tries to rape her. It's these grey areas that act as metaphor for the complexities of human relations but also have alienated some viewers, while allowing others to appreciate the risks the writers take.
But these conflicts lend Buffy a realism that is lacking in other programs. Heather-Anne Gillis of Dartmouth, N.S., agrees "Even though the struggle is couched in the life of a young woman, we see in her struggles the demons that we face every day." In reality, relationships are difficult; on the Hellmouth, they're practically impossible.
Spike isn't the only one with a dark side. Buffy's friends as well as her sometimes reluctant allies -- Willow, Giles, Angel, Oz and Anya -- have all recognized a frightening darkness within themselves. Even Xander, the heart of the group, fears that the alcoholism in his family might turn him into a monster some day. Each character has committed acts that are thoughtless and stupid, and much of Buffy is about the remorse and self-hatred they must live with.
Buffy, the one who is supposed to fight evil, has been living with the fear that she has evil within her too, and her struggle to overcome her fears, and not to succumb to a death wish, has given the show its dark edge for the past two years.
Rhonda Wilcox is a professor of English at Georgia's Gordon College and co-editor of Fighting the Forces What's at Stake in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Slayage The Online International Journal of Buffy Studies. She was one of the organizers of the East Anglia conference, and she agrees that what sets Buffy apart from other shows is its epic quality.
"I think that Buffy has raised the bar for television art," Wilcox says. "While Twin Peaks was unprecedented in terms of its visual work and dream-like content, Buffy is unprecedented in its use of long-term narrative. The people who make Buffy have done so with great integrity -- with respect for the audience and with respect for their own text. The series' careful continuity has allowed for character development of a sort never seen before. This show has made it possible for people to see that while most of television is wasted mental space, TV can be art."
The writers knew years ago how season seven would end and, as a result, the show has a definite momentum, a feeling that we're moving toward something. But along the way the writers have had fun with more gimmicky episodes, such as Once More, With Feeling, the musical episode that cemented Whedon's reputation as a genius in song as well as script. Or Hush, which boasted 29 minutes of silence when the demons stole everyone's voices, yet the personality of each character still shone through.
So, to quote a song from the musical episode, Where do we go from here? The talk of a spinoff this fall has been quashed. The writers had hopes of developing a show about Faith (the darker, even more messed-up vampire slayer) before Eliza Dushku, the actress who plays her, accepted a role in another television pilot.
Considering the present amount of academic literature on the show, the end of Buffy could signal the true beginning of its study. Scholars will now have the entire oeuvre to debate, and perhaps only then can the true analysis begin. Which would be a fitting irony for a Slayer who preferred a good staking to a good book. "Introduction to the Modern Novel?" she says as she's choosing her university courses. "I'm guessing I'd probably have to read the modern novel.... Do they have an introduction to the modern blurb?"
For the viewers of the show, we'll be able to take our memories with us. The characters felt like people we all knew, and we could identify with Buffy's problems. For seven years, the series taught us that nobody -- not even the Chosen One -- is perfect. It left us with the notion that a petite blond woman can save the world, as long as she has friends in her corner. "You have to take care of each other," she says. "You have to be strong. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it. Be brave. Live. For me."

s1 the master/the anointed one
s2 spike/dru/angelus
s3 the mayor/faith

s5 glory
s6 three geeks/willow
s7 the first/caleb
For me it has to be Evil Willow. Alison Hannigan ROCKED as the black haired, black eyed veiny mother of all witches. Her verbal spats with Buffy were excellent, her flailing of Andrew gruesome and her defeat by Xander with strories of yelow crayons was heart warming. Methinks she might make a very brief reappearance on Thursday night when Willow dabbles in the Magicks for the last time...

My favourite bad guys was the Mayor. He was funny and jsut so unevil it was brilliant.
And of course, Evil Willow was the scariest, because I was in fear of my life that Buffy would have to kill her to stop her and I couldn't take Willow being dead!

The big news for ''Buffy'' fans ''Spike is in the hizzy,'' says exec producer Joss Whedon, who adds that James Marsters' undead dude will be reintroduced ''painfully, and with a lot of special effects.'' Meanwhile, Angel (David Boreanaz) has taken over the supernatural law conglomerate Wolfram & Hart. ''Last year was one big story for 22 episodes,'' says Whedon. ''This year we're trying to welcome new viewers, so it's more solve-a-case-every-week.'' Angel may also get a visit from a certain slayer (if Sarah Michelle Gellar can find time between ''Scooby-Doo'' sequels). ''Now that I have her two ex-boyfriends in one room, it's the perfect time to make things even worse.'' Any more spin-offs planned, Mr. Whedon? ''I'm working on 'Buffy Deep Space Nine.' It will be dark and badly received.''

Just foudn this on an American website... interview with a TV criitc who has seen the first installments of Angel s5.
I watched the first two episodes, and they are amazing. Honestly. Spike comes back at the end of the first episode, sees Angel and asks, "Is this hell?" To which Lorne responds, "No, Los Angeles, but a lot of people make that mistake." To live here is to love that. And some very funny moments with Harmony and Angel...and Harmony and Spike. The dynamic of this new ensemble is pretty great. Angel's second ep picks up nineteen days after the Buffy finale, so Spike has been missing in action for exactly that long before he reappears in the middle of Angel's posh new office at Wolfram & Hart.

I love the character of Kennedy. Great fun to watch, and write as well.
And I like anyone who makes Willow happy.
Kennedy wasn't a character designed to be likeable. She was there to annoy us, to challenge us, and to divide us.
And she did. I ADORE her, and I ADORE Iyari Limon, who plays her.

Willow was the best Boss-level villain by a country mile!
Ooh lets rate! In time honoured reverse order
7-Adam
Yawn. The foil to Riley who was fairly pointless anyway. The professor kicked ass in a Mrs. Robinson way. And the initative had gay pron appeal.
6-The First
OK let's be honest. The Big Bad of season 7 was a let down. An obscure Christmas villain from season three whgo can't take corporeal form. Uh-Huh. Caleb was great though. That Southern drawl. That mysoginism! The stabbing! The gouging!
5-The Master
The original was not the best. The Anointed One was creepy but was done away with far too early. Maybe the actor flunked fourth grade or something.
4-The Mayor
Fisrt of the big shots. The Mayor was comedic genius. Great satire on American politics, cuddly, tneder and loving but psychotic and hell bent on armageddon to boot. The graduation scenes rocked.
3-Glory
Love her or hate her Glory was unique. Almost as pretty as Buffy. A God among mortals. She had some great one liners and it's such a shame we never saw her and Cordy in the same room.
2-Angelus
The villains closest to Buffy are the best. When Angel humped the Slayer and lost his soul all hell broke loose. David Boreanaz plays the darker side of Angel with gusto. Combined with Spike and Dru I thought nothing would come close to toppling the nastiness of season two... but I was wrong
1-Willow
Or more precisely black haired, veiny evil Willow!
No one fought the Buffster with better one liners. Snaps for Xander and the crayon story and preventing the end of the world. Willow was the one big bad too strong for Buffy. Apart from The Master. And The First. And the Mayor. And Glory...

And Joe the TV phenomenon that is Buffy The Vampire Slayer/Angel is the phoenix that arose from the ashes of a dire teen flick in the mid titles titled "Buffy The Vampire Slayer." (I kid you not). Joss Whedon's script was butchered by the director and studio in question and the resulting feature was tacky, dull and bombed in the cinemas. But following the success of Buffy the TV series on the WB it hyas become a cult hit on video and DVD. Check it out, if only for one of the hammiest death scenes in cinematic history.

I'm not looking forward to the new series of Angel, how can it continue without Cordelia. While shes going to making an appearance in the hundred episode she is not returning as a full time cast member, a decision that the actress charisma carpenter did not make. Apparently she was as surprised as everyone else when she discovered her character wouldn't be returning after the pregnancy. I mean Fred been the only female lead, please she's as boring. Harmony is coming back as the secretary so that should provide some laughs, but really disgusted they got rid of Cordie, she's been part of the franchise since day one.

Pretty much. The default state is "non-interest". You don't need to say this. You participate in the thread if you are interested.
You can get away with it on this forum because we're small enough to handle a few "i don't like this" posts. But if you have a forum with say 1000 people, and a thread gets posted that 25 people are interested in, that's a lot of "this is shit, I don't see the attraction" posts.
You're perfectly welcome to give a counter-viewpoint ie. "This is shit because ..." (Poor character development, appeals only to certain groups, too cheesy, hackneyed storylines etc. etc. ).

Cordy ascended at the end of season three. Was heavily pregnant and possessed for most of season four. Went into a coma after giving birth to a goddess who promised world peace but was killed by Angel. Season five sees her off camera, off credits in a coma somewhere. The 100th episode which should give the Cordy arc some closure will air in about ten weeks time in Ireland and the UK.
