View Full Version : So we have 1 bar left...now what?

Fair enough taboo closed last night but they did go out well all the same, fair play lads....i had a really great night there...but it got frightfully jointed...couldnt move an arm hair. all the former staff on the bar dancing was a bit much, thought it'd end up like a game of dominos, i think they went up there to hold up the ceiling!
apparantly it IS relocating...heard rumours of "taboo 2" and "taboo tutu", jesus like...what's that about? drunken talk im guessing. but to be honest i sooo cant see them relocating...think mary was kinda happy to get it off her back.
a few of us asked her where she was "relocating" to and she simply replied "city centre".
we don't need to lose this place...as much as we have all complained bout it at some stage...we still need to have a choice. going from the dream of having 3 bars to choose from, to now 1 is totally unbelievable...hopefully we will at least go back to having 2 bars if instinct opens. but for now...it's all to loafers on saturday nights, grab your coats guys...it's a bit of a walk. but it is a nice bar so, might as well enjoy.

How about "Tatu"????
funkeymonkey
1st March 2004, 10:23 PM
that might curse the place...the group had major stardom for a short time and then went totally down hill, where are they now?? we dont want that happening to a well needed gay bar

It will rise again.... from the ashes
I was there tonight, for a last private pint, as thay cleared the last of the stock and the furnature out of the bar and the word is keep your frocks ironed and in the closet for about 4 - 6 weeks , and then get them out !!!
The legend will return

no harm that loafers are going to make a fortune for the next few weeks then. they deserve more praise than they get.

i was just thinking...is there any bars around the city at the moment that are rumoured to be closing down? if we put our heads together we could get an idea as to where taboo is relocating to. if it's within 4 weeks im guessing they are gonna occupy an existing bar. isnt the classic bar's licence up for renewal soon?
justme
1st March 2004, 10:55 PM
dont know anything bout the classic bar's licence, but it would be cool being soo close to the club. are they definately not the ones behind the oyster/instinct thing???
cant see them actually moving closer to the club though. just dont think the premises are there for it to happen.
so cant wait to see what the story with this saturday will be, to see if everyone will go to loafers.

ya true...oh the possibilities and hopeless dreams...we are kinda all being left hanging by threads of information regarding 1-the opening of INSTINCT. 2-the relocation of TABOO. and 3-and if LOAFERS are planning anything new to get the crowds back. or will they stay the way they are with their jukebox and tv in the background.

ya the place kinda freaks me out because of the lowness of the ceiling. sounds sad,but when ive got my big barbie hair in on those rare occassions, it tends to get ruined

BAD NEWS looks like we are staying stuck with one gaybar for now.
lebarron just explained that the whole instinct thing was a bit of a laugh!
we need amnesiac to rectify this as he has said on several occassions that he has been talking to the managers and the plans are tru.
we need to know...im headwrecked now thinking bout it. lol ;-)

just relax man
all we have to do is become straight
its soo easy.
ah no seriously we should gatecrash straight bars regularly so they become more gay occupied and the straights may get turned off going there.
it may sound a bit crazy but its the only thing we can do at this moment in time.
GOD OH GOD...PLEASE SEND US A FEW GAY BARS...WE PROMISE TO NEVER AGAIN BECOME AN IMMEDIATE SLUT UPON ENTERING THEM, AND WE WON'T EVEN GIVE OUT ABOUT THE STATE OF THEM AND THEIR LEAKING CEILINGS.
FORGIVE US.
(hey it might work!!)

As far as I know Taboo is not involved with the new venue in town.

Licenses don't work like that. All licenses are renewed on an annual basis, in a District Court licensing day. So, no one bar can be up for renewal soon. What can happen is that a bar that is closing / closed recently can re-open. A license is harpooned to a premises, and it isn't very easy to transfer (it can be done, but best not).
An example is Fargo - which once was the Raging Bull. Or, indeed, the Oyster which becomes Instinct. The license remained on the premises, and is re-activated.
Maybe Lebowskis? That closed a while back and hasn't seemed to be doing much since. Or maybe Doyle's.

***let's all remember that the doyles thing was just mentioned as a possibility...cos we all know that it is going to turn into a huge rumour and in a matter of weeks it will be said that taboo2 will be relocating to the site of doyles...so lets keep our heads on lads, cos someone will stir it up***

Hey, all we ever deal in is speculation. It's quite funny to see how gullible people take what they hear from drunks or on a website as a gospel forecast of the future.
For example, Baron and I have done a deal with the promoters of G-A-Y in London to run a sister club in Cork.
LeBaron
2nd March 2004, 09:04 PM
And we sealed the deal on stage at G-A-Y, the night Blue played

doyles would be a great idea
but on the topic of !nst!nct, a few mates of mine passed the other night and saw loadsa scum coming out of the oyster, so apparantly its not under construction at all.
they're leaving it a bit late dont we think people??
maybe they're just gonna keep it more or less the way it is at present.

When you said scum, for a second I thought you were refering to builders rubble

good one lebaron
i think this saturday night will be very interesting just to see if everyone will flock to loafers before the club...or will everyone go to straight bars and maybe the club afterwards?
i might just go to loafers to see what the craic is...no doubt the linc crowd wont like us sneaking back.
sorry Linc. we need somewhere to go.

im sure the ppl of the linc will have no problem anyway, dont think there's stereotypes within our own "stereotype" if u know wot i mean.

i dont think they're naming it after the george...they cant be that stupid...but i think its more of g as in male g-spot and gay combined...think its being left wide open for interpretation.
But as far as i kno it may very well be their club name rather than bar name which will more than likely stay as instinct!
lets hope for the best and pray that the future will bring both
Instinct! and G!

just thinking to myself there for a minute...what would you all call a gay bar if you were to open one in cork?

'Joan Crawford Versus The Infernal Machine'. It is the ONLY choice.
funkeymonkey
9th March 2004, 12:37 AM
if u were to use all that, it'd be a bit long of a name though. where would u find a venue big enough to hold the logo alone?

Ah, but you see, the genius of my plan is thereby revealed. Joan, from beyond the grave, willuse all the powers of space, time and darkness and somehow fi all the words onto the marquee.
A successful strategem, and one I employ to pay off my Visa card each month. Sigh. Cork Art Supplies are always SO happy when I plod through their doors.
