Im sitting at my computer thinking about something to say about this book, that ive just finished reading, that will do it justice. Its called Gaywyck and is written by Vincent Virga. I don't consider myself a very emotional person, people die I remain relatively untouched, yet play Miss Saigon for me and everytime I end up in tears. The tragedy, power of the voices, yada, yada, yada. I wanted to read something with the morality of Jane Eyre, the suspence of Rebecca and unbound passion of Wuthering Heights, and I wanted it to be gay. A gay gothic romance suspence. I found it all in Gaywyck. Hungrily I devoured this book and yet dreaded the end. When it came I was reduced to tears. Not by the emotional attachement I had formed with the characters but because of the implications it held for me, for everyone. After reading the epilogue, which in its few short lines brought on my emotional onslaught, I found myself pondering the belief of love. That even if you have it and it lasts for thirty, forty years at some point time will catch up on one of you and you'll find yourself alone and old. Depressing isn't it. Of course another one of the books messages is to embrace love for however short rather then hide away protected and cold. The book doesn't rely on sexuality as an issue, which doesn't make it in any way political, rather retreats to an ideal where you love who you love and those who love you will respect and continue to love you no matter what. I won't go into the story, only to say it will stay with you afterwards, it will affect you and you will read it again.[I]
