Can't say i know anyone who's going, it doesn't sound much good. There's some pub band playing and a dj or something like that. Do you know what i would done, call me mad, but a perfect act for this and really make the weekend would have been t get someone like The Petshop Boys, their on tour at the mo plugging their latest album, the organisers would have got them at an ok price. But no we've some pub band. We should look forward to this every year bt its a bit of a joke. Sorry if i sound bitchy. [V][V]

Goalpost has a good point... although Cork Pride is a totally voluntary committee with probably a desperately limited budget. Still, their advertising (or should I say what advertising??) leaves an awful lot to be desired and the Ball itself is seeming like less of an event than it should. It's a great idea though. Wouldn't Jack L have been perfect?

Ok i accept they may not have a very big budget, but do what everyone else does get sponsorship from a multi national, drinks company what ever. I just find the committees ideas a bit lack luster. Really i'm not staying around for the weekend i'm going to head to Dublin, i don't think i'll miss much. Don't get me wrong i'd love to see the pride weekend be a big success, but i won't hold my breath.

There has been quite a lot of advertising actually, I have even put more leaflets into taboo tonight and also handed more leaflets about the ball.

Despite the perceived negativity of the ball (and pride), I'm sticking to the central theme of "Gay Pride".
(After all its only in its second year)

It a small committee, and as has achieved quite a lot on very limited resources

I for one will be at the ball, and know quite a few others who will be to...

Remember "Gay Pride"

I think EUR50 is a bit steep for the ball. And no student discount? Grr...

And a lot more people would be willing to fork out that EUR50 if Fabula had been hosting as originally planned.

There has been quite a lot of advertising actually??????? where admin? The wall in Loafers with the posters that omits Bi's?.
50 Euro is very steep then hiring a tucks.I take you're point about maybe we should look at the theme of the weekend i.e "pride" but i hope "emmbarassment" won't be the word on the Tuesday after the week end.I've said it before get sponsorship for the event, don't tell me because it's a gay festival no one will touch it.I'm in marketing i deal with this stuff everyday of the week. I feels it a lack of experience on the committee. Their are bussiness men in the gay community with a wealth of experience in the area of sponsorship and events, get them in to help.

I'm sure the KY Café would be willing to bend over backwards to sponsor PRIDE.

Goalpost, I believe now is the time to volunteer and show them what needs to be done. I'm sure even at this late stage they will happily listen to your ideas.

its all well and good to stand on the sidelines and give out, if u are not happy with whats happening then get involved in it and try to organise something that u think would be more apt.
goalpost i think if u are going to be away this weekend and not going to have an active role in proceedings then dont criticse.

goalpost, we have to start from somewhere, and you must remember its only year 2.

people are great to talk, but when it come to volunteering its a whole different matter.

You don't have to wear a tuc for the ball, (Black and White Dress) leaflets have been put in taboo,
loafers and Other Place, with the last 2 weeks stating so.

As the for the "bi" matter, that was a printing error and was not intentional.

As for "embarrassment", I certainly wont' be feeling that on Tuesday,
I will able to hold my head high knowing that at least I’ve got off my arse and have done something.

Unlike many people out there who done nothing but knock and criticize cork gay pride from the start.

There will always be people, particularly on the "scene" who criticize and bitch just for the sake of it. However, ventures like Gay Pride, gay groups, the Club, Taboo and Loafers would be wise to listen to some of the more measured criticisms at times and learn from them.

There's a real buzz in Taboo and Loafers this week and a lot of hard work has gone into planning Pride and I'm sure it is going to be quite a success. So let's all try and enjoy the weekend as much as possible, have a good time and remember what Pride is all about.

Mistakes will be made, not everybody will be pleased all of the time, but afterwards is the time to offer constructive criticism. Now is the time to (christina aguilleira impersonation) PAAAARTAAAAAAAAAAAY!

Like Cinderella, a Fairy Godmother granted me a last minute wish and I ended up goign to the Ball last night.
I had reservations (namely the venue, lack of Fabula, price of tickets, entertainment etc) and I have got to say I take back everything ( although I ddn't have to fork out for my own ticket).

The ball was a fantastic success. Great atmosphere in Jurys', good meal, great company, the band and the DJ were excellent... all in all it was probably the best "gay night out" I've had in my short life.

Amnesiac danced the night away (not in rythym of any sort... that's only for posers) and cast off his Placebo-loaded-Discman to do Spice Girls routines on stage. The Siege of Ennis was particularly scary... at one stage I was flat on the ground and had four couples swinging around me.

Congratulations to the committee on the success of the innaugral ball. I hope next year's event is even better and can attract even more of Cork's Queers. (Hint... try and drop the price of a ticket!)

Great to see all went so well after some reservations. Still find it hard to imagine that Gay Cork Pride was opened by the Lord Major - Brilliant how things are moving on
