Oh Gisela, where did it all go wrong? Was it the out of tune singing? Was it dressing like a bronze aged warrior queen with a thing for poodles? Was it the 1963 choreography?
Don't worry hun, Casanova still ranks as a modern schlager classic.

OK, so Nusa might look like a Norry girl dressed up like the Bride from Kill Bill but what is there not to love about this high energy Europop dance number. It suffers slightly from a lack of a crazy stage routine but remember this was during Eurovision's strangely austere late 90s/early naughties period! and the key change lights up a soccer stadium; how cool is that?
This is a track BEGGING for an Agnes makeover!

Clever man he was by waving that orange rag around for the whole performance. Only a few months earlier the hugely popular Orange Revolution took place which was a mass democratic uprising against rigged and corrupt presidential election results. Age Sten Nilsen (i googled them[:-P]) was a dab hand at currying favour! Great song too!

The year is 1993. Eurovision has found a temporary home in a cowshed in Millstreeet, Co. Cork. The contest has got off to a dodgy start with less than stellar entries from Italy, Turkey and Germany. Up next is Switzerland. Without much success since Celine Dion won on Irish soil in 1988, they've decided to employ the talents of a young Quebecois chanteuse once more.

Eurovision is somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me. While it's fun to take the piss out of the cheesy and sh1te entries, there is usually one or two gems there.
2003: I don't like TATU and their vocals were awful, but the song was actually pretty damn good.
2009: I really liked the Estonian gothic string quartet fronted by the most elfin looking woman I've seen that wasn't Liv Tyler as Arwen.
2010: My two favourites, Slovakia and Sweden, failed to qualify. [:-(] Luckily, my third favourite (Germany) won!
Best year though was 2007: Bulgaria's percussion-fuelled dance song and Hungary's answer to Janis Joplin both stand out as great performances. But this is the one that really should have won it imo, probably the best Eurovision song I have ever heard, and one that I regularly listen to on Youtube:

They didn't! There was a massive controversy the week before the contest and the EBU came very close to throwing the entry out but in the end they felt they couldn't as the contest was being held in Dublin. The juries were left under no illusions that they were NOT to award Ireland a fourth victory in a row. Instead our own Fionnuala Sherry as part of Secret Garden brought the contest to Norway, where we made a triumphant return the following year, winning our fourth contest out of five with Brendan Graham's The Voice.

D'ya mind me asking how they went about that? Did they say "you cannot vote for Ireland"? Because i can't remember Ireland ever getting nul point. Did they say "you can only give Ireland a maximum of 4 points"?, or something like "some of you can vote for Ireland but others aren't allowed"? I'm just trying to understand how you can manipulate the vote like that without being blatant about it.
