Amongst the first countries to launch into their Euro selection is last years winner (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8JRtGMBUz0) Norway with the now annual Melodi Grand Prix.

http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Media/Pix/pictures/2009/5/18/1242644274248/Eurovision-Song-Contest-2-001.jpg

Can they follow up with their current trend of good results (#1 - 2009 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8JRtGMBUz0), #5 - 2008 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZeXpqJNnIs), #9 -2005 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qh7hiaq0aWU) and #3 - 2003 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geyZo4OFMYk)), it's a pity that poor Guri (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEjlg0s_tr0) didn't make, I liked that song [:-((]

From the clip say yer man Gaute's song is the best, (even though I didn't understand a word) but they are so short who knows....

First impression though is that the songs aren't great ...

Well this one is for all of you Maria lovers, all of you.

Schlagerboys had an interview with her in the last few days.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_gXlbsb64iZE/S0OPxbhH6AI/AAAAAAAAEW8/skYTpmaGJqo/s400/Maria+Haukaas+Storeng.jpgThe new schlager season kicks off in earnest on Friday with the first of the Norwegian MGP semi-finals. Hurrah! Following her not-very-schlager-but-still-fabulous "Hold On Be Strong" anthem in 2008 and her co-presenting MGP duties last year, Norway's number one schlager diva is back, back! BACK!! with "Make My Day". We got in touch to ask her the most important questions about dance routines and costumes. Oh! My! God! It's Maria Haukaas Storeng!!

Schlagerboys: Who made up the "true, true, true" pointy hand dance for "Hold On Be Strong"?

IZeXpqJNnIs

Maria Haukaas-Storeng: It was a choreographer named Mathias Carlsson who made the signature for my act. He picked out movements that I'd done naturally in performance in the Norwegian final and put it into a system. He's great! I'm working with him this year as well.

SBs: Fabulous! And do you still do the pointy hand dance when you sing "Hold On Be Strong"?

MHS: Of course I still do it! It's a signature for the song:!

SBs: We find it works paticularly well as a mass-pointathon, with the gays on the dancefloor after a few vodkas. What was your experience like in Belgrade? Have you got any gossip about wild celebrity antics at the parties?

MHS: Belgrade was fantastic! I loved it! But no gossip! Sorry, I'm not a gossip girl....

SBs: What was it like in Melodifestivalen last year? Have you spoken to Sahlene since?

Ck72YtD72yo

MHS: Melodifestivalen last year was more like Eurovision in terms of attention from the media. I loved it! I felt like the Swedish people gave me a compliment just by inviting me over to their own competition. I saw Anna this summer at Pride in Stockholm. It didn't feel like we'd been apart for months! She's super!

SBs: Did you enjoy presenting MGP last year? Will you be giving any presenting tips to whoever presents Eurovision in May?

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_gXlbsb64iZE/S0OQTWoeTLI/AAAAAAAAEXM/_QBSXsn78N8/s400/Maria+and+Per2.jpg

MHS: It was really exciting and fun to present MGP last year, I've never done anything like it, and would absolutely do it again if the question came up! I would never be able to give any tips to a host/hostess for Eurovision. I'm too inexperienced in presentation to give any sort of advice. But if I had to, it would simply be enjoy!

SBs: What’s your song like this year? And why have you decided to give MGP another go?

MHS: I would call my new song "Hold On Be Strong's little sister". I am looking forward to singing it. As long as I believe in a song and get asked to be in MGP, I come running because I simply love being a part of MGP, and I feel that we as artists need to claim the biggest stage and show in Norway to make sure it will always remain!

SBs: You’re looking fabulous in the publicity photos for MGP! Where can we buy a pair of those flares?

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_gXlbsb64iZE/S0OP8kK1jcI/AAAAAAAAEXE/XLJjxkOuY4U/s320/Maria+Haukaas+Storeng2.jpg

MHS: Thanks! It's fun to do something new! It's actually a catsuit from the Danish designer By Marlene Birger.

SBs: It's on our Christmas list for next year. Have you heard any of the other songs in MGP 2010? Were you disappointed not to be asked to sing Mira Craig’s song?

MHS: No, I haven't heard any of the other songs, but I'm sure they're great. It will be very exciting to see the other acts! I think it's great that Mira's performing herself this year! She's a really cool and talented artist. So, no, I'm not disappoined. Just happy to see her perform!

SBs: Do you have a message for the readers of Schlagerblog?

MHS: Hope you like "Make My Day" as much as I do! If so, vote for me! Hope I get to meet you again!

NRK have uploaded the full version of yesterday’s clips of the songs from MGP heat 1 here (http://www.nrk.no/programmer/tv/melodi_grand_prix/1.6931344).

The web page looks exactly like it did when the clips were first uploaded, if you click on the track button you will see that it expands into 3 minute versions of the songs rather than the 20 secs that were there originally.

Yet another Schlagerboys interview [:-D]

Oh! My! God! The Schlagerboys can barely contain our excitement as the Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix 2010 kicks off tomorrow night in Ørland. Not only is Maria Haukaas Storeng making a comeback but the icon of fabulosity and glamtastic diva herself Lene Alexandra is back, Back! BACK!! It looks like Lene's ditched the blond hair and the bongos from 2008 so we thought we'd better find out what on earth is going on??!!??

Schlagerboys: We’ve heard your song "Prima Donna" is all about you. Is that true?

Lene Alexandra: Really? Ha ha.. Maybe it is..! Well, it all started when the boss in my last record company called me the most manipulated "Prima Donna" he had ever met in the media. I must say that I wasn't exactly flattered at first. But thanks to cyberspace I changed my mind. I researched the word and ended up thankful instead. He actually gave me a compliment! How cute! A "Prima Donna" is a strong woman who knows what she wants and loves her work. So the song is about how I see it I guess and to me "Prima Donna" is a good thing …A little bit of humour is always fun and it doesn`t hurt to be a bit ironic sometimes.... Have to play you know.. Life is too serious sometimes right? "Prima Donna" is a girlpower song and a tribute to all the glamourous and strong women out there.
SBs: So, being a Prima Donna, do you make any demands for your dressing room?

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_gXlbsb64iZE/S0Y58E2Ah1I/AAAAAAAAEX8/bZwdkFHXfyo/s400/Lene+Alexandra4.JPG

LA: Of course! Who doesn`t? Do you have any ideas of new demands for my dressingroom by the way?Maybe I should ask Mariah Carey?

SBs: And do you have an entourage like Mariah Carey?

LA: I wish.. But I am not on her level yet you know.. But I have a GOOD and REAL entourage though. I have my family and real friends who love and support me. I think that is better than people who are just there because you pay them.

SBs: Quite right Lene. So What is "Prima Donna" like?

LA : "Prima Donna" is a song you can dance to for sure. I think it is difficult to explain. You have to hear it and then I want you to explain to me what kind of a song I have written.

fRWmRKmxhH0

SBs: Will you have a dance routine? What’s it like?
LA: I can't tell you all the details, but there will be some moves. I feel that the moves are classy and suitable for a "Prima Donna". I like to play different characters you know. This year I even have some guys on stage.. I am more in control now you know.

SBs: What have you been doing since MGP 2008?

LA: Well, not too long ago since I was in the MGP. Since then I got signed by Sony Music. I have been working on a new album which I still do. I also did a small role as a policewoman in a Norwegian gangster comedy called "Tomme Tønner" which has its premiere the same day as I am singing in MGP.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_gXlbsb64iZE/S0Y5GGeTeWI/AAAAAAAAEX0/EKuff25YoQw/s320/Lene+Skal+Vi+Danse.jpg

SBs: Haven't you won a dance competition?

LA: The same year as I did MGP in 2008 I also did the TV show Strictly Come Dancing/Dancing With The Stars and YES, I won the whole thing!!Can you believe that? I still don`t understand that I won. Well, I guess a lot of the audience voted for my sexy partner though.. But still.. Number 1! Crazy! I am thankful and it was one of the best experiences in my life for sure. Hard, but SO worth it!! Hanne Krogh was also in the competition by the way, so now I know her and she is a smart and sweet lady!

SBs: Oh my god! You mean schlager diva, icon and general legend Dame Hanne Krogh? So does this mean you can do a good Cha Cha Cha?

LA: Haha…Well…In the final I got 10 points from all the judges on all the dances, so I guess I am okay..?Good enough for you?

SBs: Have you still got your bongos? And do you still play them?

LA: I guess my bongos are gone.. I still have them at home though. Memories are good to have! I play them on special occasions, but I got tired of all the wrong attention they gave me. Guys actually look me in the eyes now!!!

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_gXlbsb64iZE/S0Y3POwbJbI/AAAAAAAAEXs/33pV28__kuE/s320/Lene+Alexandra.jpg

SBs: We don't know what you mean. Where else would anyone be looking...? You’re looking fabulous in the publicity shots for MGP 2010. Where can we get some of those fabulous little blue gloves you’re wearing?

LA: I know!! Easy when you work with talented and professional people! Amazing how good I can look with photoshop, great lighting, a good make-up artist and photographer… Anyone can look like that actually and you know it! Don`t you just love that! What would I do without photoshop?! Reality is kind of boring don`t you think? I see myself in the mirror every day in the morning and that is ENOUGH! Paint your life the way you want it to be. It is art!

SBs: What happened to your blond hair?

LA: I actually had an accident to begin with and I became a redhead… And then I figured that I was tired of the "bimbo look" anyway. That is so 2006! So I thought I would try "dark and mysterious" instead… I feel SO much smarter now!

SBs: Are you all natural now?

LA: Isn`t that a little bit to personal to ask I am pretty much natural now, but who cares anyway? I think what is important is how you are on the inside. I don't judge people for their looks, if they have fake tits, ass or whatever and I don`t think anyone should.

SBs: Do you have a message for the readers of Schlagerblog?

LA: I love the Schlagerblog and I appreciate all the support! Now it is in the middle of the night, but I am sitting here doing this interview because you guys are special to me. I could not say no to you.

Bless you Lene! We'll be tuning in tomorrow night! See you in the Spektrum in February!

On Friday the first heat of Norway’s annual national song contest, Melodi Grand Prix, took place. We were rooting for the song ‘Primadonna’ by the delectable Lene Alexandra. And readers who already know the result will be aware of how disappointed we are! How thoroughly unfair! For some odd reason, Norway decided that the below performance simply wasn’t good enough to progress any further from its heat, and as a result, Lene didn’t qualify for the final or even the second chance round. How could they?!

mSy7DhnLCso

Instead, the below two songs were chosen as the best two, and thus progressed straight to the final, which takes place on the first Saturday of February. We weren’t surprised by Keep of Kalessin’s ‘The Dragontower’ - it’s a good song, was totally unique amongst all of the others, and of course Norwegians love a bit of trash metal! Maria Haukaas Storeng’s qualification was another non surprise too. A big enough name, a big enough personality, and a nice enough song.

JouxsQiN6EU

l4hWMxMwppw

The two places in the second chance round were grasped by the two young gents in the contest, Bjørn Johan Muri with the really very good ‘Yes Man’ and Gaute Ormåsen with his semi rip of of last year’s MGP winner, ‘Synk Eller Svom’.

TQaQ00UdmBg

And finally, the two below songs shared the same fate as poor Lene - they weren’t voted to progress any further in the competition and so exited. Although we didn’t particularly care for either of them.

Schlagerboys have another interview with one of this Fridays artists: Hanne Haugsand and her fabulous blue eyeliner.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_gXlbsb64iZE/S0zOshx150I/AAAAAAAAEYM/_oCkdzqbPFg/s400/Hanne+Haugsand.jpg

10 years ago Norway kicked off the Noughties with a fabulous Eurovision schlager stompathon! Charmed performed "My Heart Goes Boom" in Stockholm dressed all in purple, with enormous Spice Girl platform trainers and spiky bits sticking out of their hair. And now one of them is back, Back! BACK! Oh my god! It's Hanne Haugsand!

Schlagerboys: So Hanne, what’s your song for Melodi Grand Prix 2010 "Don’t Stop" like?

Hanne Haugsand: "Don’t Stop" is a catchy up-tempo synth-pop song with loads of positive energy and a sweet storyline about heartbreak, hope and to never lose faith in love. The composers, Mariann Thomassen (Surferosa) and Lars-Erik Westby, describe the song as a crossover between The Killers’ "Human" and Abba – I've completely fallen in love with the song and hope you will feel the same way about it as I do! It didn’t take many seconds for me to identify with the song... At the same time that Mariann wrote these lyrics I pulled myself out of a 7-year long relationship, so when I heard "Don’t Stop" for the first time I instantly felt the words in a very personal way. I even got to do some synth-tracks on the recording so I'm ecstatic about it!

SBs: Have you got a fabulous dance routine for Saturday night? And will you be wearing a glamorous outfit?

HH: Yes and Yes! "Don’t Stop" is choreographed by Charlotte Våset and I love how she has visualized this 80’s retro feel into a very clean-cut, tough and laidback act. (SBs: Isn't that Charlotte out of Velvet Inc?? Oh! My! God!) All the essential "hands" are there, combined with great walks and killer moves – it’s exactly how it should be and I can’t wait to perform it!

SBs: Ooh! We love dance routines with "hands". Sounds fabulous! And what about the frock?

HH: My outfit is handmade by Norwegian designer Kjersti Vatle. It's retro and futuristic, elegant and rough at the same time. Think it's the perfect fit to both the song and to me – and it’s in my favourite colour; blue!

SBs: Where can we get some of that fabulous blue sparkly eye-shadow from?

HH: Hahahaha!! Get yourselves some turquoise, metallic sea-green and royal blue eye-shadow and go crazy with it! Extra fun with the blue eye-liner – LOVE the blue eye-liner!!

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_gXlbsb64iZE/S0zO41mRPHI/AAAAAAAAEYU/xox1fVcMWgI/s320/Hanne+Haugsand2.jpg

SBs: What on earth have you been up to since 2000? And what’s this Tundra Mode project we’ve read about?

HH: Ten years have passed soooooo quickly!!! But I’ve had a lot of fun both with Charmed and with other musical projects. I work with singing, music production, programming and songwriting on a daily basis and feel very lucky to be able to do what I love every day! Tundra Mode is a project with Charmed-colleague Oddrun Valestrand and myself. We do melodic electronica with a Nordic chill to it – lots of cool beats, great synths and airy vocals. Oddrun plays the violin, I do the programming and we both sing. If you’d like to have a listen pop on our website or watch our YouTube channel.

SBs: Do you ever see the Charmed girls now? Do you pop round each others houses on Eurovision night and have a big party?

HH: We actually had a FANTASTIC time this Saturday when we performed "My Heart Goes Boom" at the Gay Galla in Oslo!!! And YES – we pop round each other all the time and are still great friends!

SBs: How completely fabulous! We'd love an invite to a Charmed Eurovision party... Have you ever lost your mind and popsicle? Do you still go spinning round the moon?

HH: Constantly!

SBs: We’re very good at the "stamp stamp stamp" dance routine on the key change to “My Heart Goes Boom”. Would you consider reforming Charmed with us?

HH: Of course guys!!! When and where????

__gM06sUWOg

SBs: Do you have a message for the readers of Schlagerblog?

HH: I hope all the readers of Schlagerblog have a great time watching the Norwegian Semis and of course I hope that you all will love my song!!! It’s a great honour for me to do MGP for the third time – three times truly is a charm(ed) and this year it’s very special to me personally; it’s Charmed's 10 year anniversary, Norway is hosting the Eurovision finals and I’m sooooo lucky to be a part of it with this FAB song that Mariann and Lars-Erik wrote! Melodi Grand Prix and Eurovision would be nothing without the fans and all the participants know this in our hearts. So I hope you all embrace the songs, sing them, dance them, talk and write about them, LOVE them – and truly enjoy the show!!!

Fabulous Hanne! Good luck on Saturday and see you in the Spektrum!

This took place on Saturday. We had our favourites, we had songs that we liked, and we had songs that we hated. As always, the results didn’t exactly go as we wished, but they went more in our favour than usual and could have been a lot worse!

Our absolute favourite song, ‘Give It To Me’ by Alexander Stenerud qualified directly to the final, so we’re over the moon about that. It’s the first song in the final that we really like. Our second favourite, ‘Jealous Cause I Love You’ by Venke Knutson only managed to qualify for the second chance round, but like we say - it could have been a lot worse. It actually was a lot worse for two of the songs that we liked, by Tomine Harket and Hanne Haugsand - they both found themselves in the bottom three after the televote, and were thus eliminated from the competition, along with that dire tune from the Skanksters. The other qualifier to the final was Maria Arredondo with her nice enough ballad, ‘The Touch’. And the other qualifier for the second chance round was Heine Totland with the not so nice ‘The Best Of Me Is You’.

Here are the performances in order of how much we enjoyed them!
