"Lifestyle" bar?
I don't get it..
Is this a new gay bar?
I didn't read the other thread.
I'm a lazy fuck.

Yes its a "gay" bar, but gay is usually exclusive to men, and I know they want to include the whole queer family - hence "lifestyle bar"

Pre-bloody-cisely. Instinct is aimed at Lesbians and Gay Men of all ages, and their friends, whomever they might be. Queer people in general, hence it's not being marketed as a Disco bar or a Mancunian Imitation.

My friend said it was for over 21's and invite only on sunday. Please tell me hes just being a LIAR!

It is most definitely NOT Invite-Only!
And the over-21s thing (I think) doesn't really apply any more. ROAR (Right of Admission reserved) means that you can be refused entry, but not on a basis of age alone - correct me if I'm wrong here but isn't it now illegal to refuse someone of the legal age entry becuase they're under the age bracket you specify yourself?
Just don't show up late or skanky or drunk and you should be fine -)

No, you can refuse on age grounds now. THe publicans managed to lobby the government to water down the age-discrimination law.
Basically, the bouncers or pub staff can refuse on age, if an age limit it clearly defined at the entrance of the premesis.
So if there is a "over 21's only" sign clearly visible at the door, they can refuse.

Oh! Hm.
Well, I can't say for certain but I have heard nothing about an over-21 age restriction, and I think if that were the case, it'd have been posted on the Instinct website.
Also, management has said nothing to me about such a limit, so I still think you'll be grand.

Myself and my glamorous friends decided to go a grace Instinct last night. Only to discover that the homophobic Luke from Bodega was on the door. Well......Le Barron got refused for some inane reason. We were forced to got to the straight havan that is the Rhino Rooms. Anyway after Le Baron went home in disgust (his night having been F%$Ked). The group were talking and we discovered that someone else had heard the homphobic Luke tell a guy that was in the queue that he shouldn't come in cause "the place was full of "GAYS". Firstly I resent the fact that a bladly straight w$%ker seamed to be deciding which members of the gay community were going to be allowed in. Secondly I might remind the owners of the bar that we the poofs of Cork are the one's that are paying the rent! So, maybe a rethink of the security policy is in order and the contract should go to JD from the Raven. At least you could be guarranted that the door would be fair! Please Bootyzilla, pass on the comments. I'm DISCUSTED!

International?
LoL..
What was the actual place like?
I mean..
Compared to Taboo?
scenelife
12th April 2004, 12:45 PM
it was a LOT bigger than taboo....jam packed [like taboo] stage, a dancing pole [lol], and the smell of fresh paint.
i dunno if me and my friends were the only ones but did anyone think that there was very poor ventilation?
one of my friends left because of it.

I think that when you have soooo many people (over 1000 at one point!!) crammed into a space, however big it is (and it is big!) then the air is going to get stale quickly anyway.
Personally, I had a fantastic night, and, bar the bouncer issue (all comments etc have been passed on, now), nothing else went wrong.
Hoorah!

Its a great pity that something so good, which we were all looking forward to, has kicked off on such a sour note.
I hope they get it together so that we can all settle down and enjoy the experience.

Hang on a second.
While I appreciate that a very small handful of people have had a bad experience with one particular bouncer, (feedback which, I can assure you all, has been passed on and is being dealt with accordingly), it is totally unfair to say that Instinct kicked off on a sour note.
Turnout far, far exceeded our expectations. Everyone I spoke to (and that was plenty, believe me) enjoyed themselves. Bar this forum, which really only consists of about thirty or forty regular posters, everyone else I spoke to has had nothing but good things to say about Opening Night.

Sorry sweetie
Its not only on this forum, I have been speaking this morning to a number of my friends, some who got in and some who did not, who also had a sour experience with same said bouncer.
I fully accept that the night, for those who did get in, was a good one, but it is NOT unfair to say that the it kicked off on a sour note.
IT DID..... get over it.... fix it.... and we will all be happy.
I wish them all the best, as I did before the incident with the " heavy " , as its in all our interests that this venture is a success.

More than one mention of poor ventilation.

Quite good. Like the size, hopefully the upstairs will be opening too. Turn down the music though!!

what is the upstairs like? would they always have enough people to fill it if that was open too? it would be cool though.

Me and the boyfriend stayed for one, it was nice but too packed to really tell what it's like. We had fun though before heading up to Loafers, and a heated beer garden where you can smoke!
I had no problem with the bouncers and got in fine, but I agree with other people's complaints. About 4 people we know were stopped, for increasingly inane reasons.
By the way, what was up with Loafers last night? Was it late opening? I didn't leave there till 1 AM. (I can't remember if they were still serving or not, though.)

I got a bad vibe off the bouncers going in alright, thought I was being paranoid, but obviously not from the reports I'm hearing. Thank god for my mental invisibility trick with I picked up from Philip Pullman which allowed me to slip in without even being asked for ID [)]

Fab night, the venue I liked, the music was mixed and good, people could smoke outside where it was heated. It was crowded and was great. Fabula, you were great, really were. Everybody was on a high. Part of the dance floor is up two steps, not sure anything can be done about that. All of the tables and seats are high which is a pain. The womens toilets have an adapted loo, what about the gents?

so is it a full gay bar or is it one of these still yet undecided nature pubs that state that they are gay bars or gay friendly and I think I've lost the plot, as well as my strange line of reasoning...
how was it on sunday anyway? was it full of queens and faghags or more bearcub/lesbian friend/ almost on the scene guys and girls? I believe I am asking is it more of a leaning to what we have at loafers or what was present at taboo?

Everyone was there! It is a Gay bar, first and foremost, but absolutely not restricted to Gay-Only. Hence 'Lifestyle' bar. Last night, in a crowd of about 150, there was a pretty even mix of everyone - and, to my delight, a lot of older, non-scene men AND WOMEN!!
Mix is what it's all about. Different nights will obviouysly find different age and gender niches, but everyone should feel welcome to come.

And another thing does the posts numberator thingy (which I believe is the scientific term for it) have bear/bearcub friendly designations, as opposed to fresh chicken and other fagulous designations and rank seemingly inspired by the forum designer after a hectic day of shopping and guzzling the bolly at harvey nics, inhailing a multitude of noxic nicotine fumes while displaying sixties retro chique heroine eyes and popping veins, mah wahing innocent bystanders in an ignorant yet frightfully vindictive manner, gabbling about easy men and other gorgeous gorgeous things Sweetie Dharling and not caring one buggery bollocks for the non effem/informed yet not internalised homophobic Bearcubs and their furry daddies HHHHMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!

Goody! Methinks I was fearing the fem majority that dominated taboo and doth infest the other place as it has done for so many an age in this middle cork. Can thee tell me, and overlook mine valid previous rant, to as the approximate size of said new quaffing establishment in measurable size compared to loafers and the other place?
