Well
Turned up at the door, sober and well dressed
And was told by a rather chubby and balding chap, of the professional doorman variety called Luke, that my custom was not welcome.
So myself and my five friends shagged off to De Roundy
Will NOT be going back in a hurry

How can doormen ona gay pub be homophobic ? If that was the case it would have been empty when I walked in with my friends tonight. It wasn't.
Taboo times 100. It was great. The music was a tad too loud but that is the only only complaint. We toasted to its longevity tonight. I hope it stays around and becomes the standard on how gay pubs should be in Cork.

Hm. Well, while the majority would be in disagreement, Baron, rest assured, as Staff, I will be pointing Management's attention to this post, and any others like it that should spring up.
Thalia, delighted you had a good night!
Personally, it'll be about a week before I come down [:-D] [:-D] [:-D]
And I was hugely surprised by the number of Lesbians and the age mix that was present! Long may it continue.

Bootyzilla....I have heard as many good reports and bad. All the good were about the bar and the bad about the bouncers. Perhaps a rethink is in order. Apparantly, there was a FABULOUS array of yummy young studs and a LARGE number of our sisters. This is a v. good thing. It's nice to see that there is finally a bar that has a good mix of the gay gang. Not that myself and LeBarron would know!

Interesting thought.....
I wonder what legal basis anyone has for stopping anyone halfway down a public pathway, surely he can only stop ppl from going into the premisis.
Not only rude and bad for business but, I would guess, also illegal

Absolutely no legal basis for a doorperson of a venue stopping anyone on a public path.
I had a heated debate with a member of Freakscene's doorstaff about this when they tried to move people off the side-streets near One.
I wouldn't say it's illegal per se, but you don't have to obey.

Thanks Adrian, not sure tho' that I would have the courage to have a " heated debate " with a 15 stone brute - given that I am a lil bitty 11 stone myself

I thought it was pretty good. A bit crowded (that can't be helped I suppose [p]). One thing to note, the music really did affect my enjoyment. For one thing it was mostly shit (everyones tastes differ I suppose). But the main thing was it was WAY too loud, ear drums felt like they were going to burst and I couldn't talk to anyone.

I lke, I like, I like!
Didn't have any hassles with bouncers or anything (once even asked me for ID, which TOTALLY made my night!! [D])
Great venue, excellent staff and the bunny people were a very nice touch. Fabula was naturally fabulous as were the backing dancers (The white costumes on the last song were the biz!)
They was a very mixed there (good thing). It was good to see more than just the usual scene faces and I got talking to people that I normally would not get a chance to talk to in other circumstances.
At one stage, I was ready to pass out though, but I'm sure me dancing like a maniac contributed as well as there being lots of people! I liked the music, glad to see that they veered away from the usual chart stuff and played good stuff (the DJ even made early nineties stuff sound good!)
Shame to hear that some people had hassles with a bouncer, but I'm sure it'll be sorted out quick smart.
Would also recommmend the Vineyard next door which was a great place to start the evening!
Best of luck to all concerned and see you all soon!!!

Do you think the Vineyard may become gay by default then?
NuMarvel

Well the crowd may become more mixed - but it may have been like that already. A straight friend of mine was hit on in there last year. He was dead chuffed too!

I was there from 9-11. T'was good. It filled quickly. Talent everywhere for all kinds. Music wasn't for me but still lovely place. Cute dancer too! He knew his stuff. I'll def go back. No complaints well except that the paint on my table was so fresh it was all over my hand. Not to worry, i wiped it off my mate when he wasn't looking. ~Tumbs Up!

Yes, Management is regularly reading these posts and is taking such feedback on board, as they see fit.

Absolutely Loved it! It was fantastic. Granted I was off my face but it definately was one of the best nights Ive had out in a long time. Its sad to ehar some ppl had problems with the bouncer, but Im sure that can be sorted out. I reckon the next few weeks is going to see a similar trend, but after that, it will calm down and wont be so crowded.

That would make the college bar my local. Zoinks.
A local has a different feel and an ambiance to a college bar or a big city centre venture. A local is where you get to know your neighbours and you can walk home after a few pints without worrying about having brought the car out and what to do with it in the morning.
Mary I am making it my mission to bring you to Flannery's for a drink this Wednesday.
If only one before Fabula @ Instinct o)

I agree.
A local to me is the pub down the road where Id go without even bothering for what Im wearing or what I look like.
Instinct will defo be on my list in future though, provided Im not barred. Im so glad its finally here.

Can I just say that Instinct rocked my world??? The atmosphere was electric, and it felt like a real party going on...
Fabula was amazing! Never better and the perfect hostess...we loved your final look, with hair styling from the Sable Colby House of Hair!
As for the bouncers, my friends and I had no problems...it's strange to hear so many people saying they felt that maybe the door staff were homophobic. If that's the case, it's a real shame.
Surely CC TV cameras will substantiate the claims of forum contributors who were refused entry [at least it would rule out the obvious reasons cited to refuse entry, like turning up a little drunk or whatever] and management will take appropriate corrective action. In the interim I'm sure those hapless homos refused entry will vote with their feet! A gay [straight friendly] bar with homophobes on the door will find the cost of turning away their target audience too much to bear...
Anyways, I'm pretty sure a good time was had by all who went and got in, and a big warm welcome to instinct to the Cork gay community.

I loved it! I will definately be back there again soon...although my back is still in pain from Sunday Night.
Toilet Cubicles with Doors - joy![D]
Music - loved it, varied over the night but too loud!
Crowd - Brilliant mix.
Poles - Temptation for the drunks![D]LOL![;)]
I heard on the night that upstairs is being turned into a nightclub of sorts, is this true?[p]

Myself and a friend turned up at the door of Instinct, well-dressed, when the bouncers told us that we weren't going to get in. Appauled and shocked we just left. 15 minutes later we decided we'd go back to the bouncers and try and reason with them but no luck there. I asked the bouncers why we weren't allowed in, they said nothing, I asked was it full inside and they said no it wasn't full. I asked one of them for his name, he refused, then another bouncer told me his name was Luke. We rang up Directory Enquiries to get the phone number of the pub to try and talk to the management of the pub, to try and get a proper reason from the bar manager, but the pub wasn't even listed. Dodgy or what ???
We eventually got a contact phone number for the bar manager, and the manager said IT'S THERE POLICY TO REFUSE ENTRY TO THE PUB TO EVERY TENTH PERSON
THIS WAS COMPLETELY INEXCUSABLE AND DISCRIMATORY BEHAVIOUR ON THE PART OF INSTINCT
amnesiac
27th April 2004, 03:26 PM
Sounds like bull to me
capo
27th April 2004, 04:00 PM
Maybe the trick is to wait until the tenth person is refused and then go in.
BTW it is not discriminatory, it is quite the opposite, it is random.
Tommy2004
27th April 2004, 04:00 PM
No it's not bull at all. It's true.
Instinct Policy is to refuse entry to every tenth person that came directly from the bar manager.
So don't count on geting into the place on a night out.
amnesiac
27th April 2004, 04:03 PM
Funny I've known nobody else to be prevented going in at random and I've seen far more than ten people enter after each other without hassle.
Tommy2004
27th April 2004, 04:08 PM
But when myself and my friend went up to the bouncers at Instinct and we are both butch gays, and they refused us entry, we felt as if they were refusing us entry because we didn't fit into their idea of what being gay is. ie...the Graham Norton stereotype because the bouncers let some very Queeny guys in right after we left the bouncers.
And if I'm right in saying that they wouldn't let us in because we didn't look QUEER ENOUGH then IT IS DISCRIMINATION.
amnesiac
27th April 2004, 04:09 PM
Now that is complete and utter bullshit. Go spam somewhere else.
Tommy2004
27th April 2004, 04:11 PM
Well, unless Instinct bar policy has changed since I was there 2 weeks ago, then maybe you're right.

27th April 2004, 04:15 PM
But that's a completely different argument to your 20 point font argument. Now THATS discrimination.
todays program featured the word 'Discrimination' and the numbers 2 and 7.

27th April 2004, 04:16 PM
if its their policy to refuse entry to every tenth person, then how come both u and ur bf were refused? were there 9 ppl between yee going in? dont be ridiculous. every pub in cork has bouncers on the door that refuse people entry. dont take it to heart.

Anybody who has queued for Instinct or been there and seen the gay/straigth mix will see this lyign spammer for what he is. Sad attention seeking troll.
But he bumps the Instinct thread which is good for them.

Tommy2004
27th April 2004, 04:17 PM
I know that any pub can refuse entry to a pub and not give you a reason, eventhough they ought to give a reason why.
But the second point I made is quite valid.
Tommy2004
27th April 2004, 04:20 PM
Why do you resort to name calling

I know it's a complete pain in the Nat King. I just can't imagine any situation where I would go into a pub with a bouncer so forgive me if I'm not taking you seriously.
Amnesiac - why do think he is a spammer ? What would his agenda be ?
jc
27th April 2004, 04:25 PM
About you guys not looking 'queer enuough' being discriminatory? I think you're just upset you didnt get left in. Ive been there twice, and yes, sure there are the 'queeny, Graham Norton' types.... but there are also a lot of other regular dressed, dare I say it, 'normal' looking guys in there too.
I agree, its really bad that bouncers can simply make a decision not to allow entry to someone, but its a rule thats there and if you want to go out then you have to accept it. Ive been refused entry to places before (for being drunk or else not having ID), so I understand your frustration. Has this occurred more than once? From what I can tell you havent been there since it opened.
If it happened several times then you'd have reason to complain. Try again this weekend.

Hey All!
I love going to instinct! Its a fab bar! One thing wrong though. The bouncers. A friend of mine who does NOT drink, and does NOT cause trouble was refused entry on the wednesday 3 days after Instinct opened. He was refused entry on the grounds that he was in there the week before, drunk and causing trouble.
If my memory serves me correctly, the bar hadn't even opened when alleged incident occured, so how in blue jelly beans was he to cause trouble?
Anyway guys, Top bar! Pat you've done a wonderful job, Lisa you're fabulous! And do we need to mention Fab diB? Fabula, your reputation precedes you sweetheart!

Instinct is the best thing for the Cork Scene in ages. (if not ever)
I just happened to call in last night to hear the Gay choir Gloria.
It was the most fun night I had in ages, dancing away to fab mix of music.
Full credit to the new owners /manager, they initiative will effect all of our lives, whether we realise it or not!
Well done guys! :)
