...why don't we paint the town?

Went to see CHICAGO last night and OMG it is amazing. I knew Catherine Zeta-Jones could sing and dance but Renée is amazing... and even though he's vocally weak, Richard Gere turns in a supremely confident, charismatic performance.

The numbers are great, all originals (to the best of my knowledge). Highlights include Caterine Zeta Jone's opening number "All That Jazz", Queen Latifah's "When You're Good to Momma", the Cell-Block Tango (what a riot) nad Richard Gere's "Razzle Dazzle."

Have to agree with you that its an excellent show. Renee deserves an oscar for her performance. I thought Richard gere wa a bit poor but i was proved wrong when i sw him perform 'razzle dazzle' towards the end.
I'd advise anyone to go to see it because my feet are still tapping after all that jazz!
The play is coming to Dublin in April i am so tempted to go and see it live.
Actually i am so tempted to run to broadway to become a star.
How i wish my life was a musical, wouldn't life be wonderful then*sigh*!!

Almost forgot to mention the closing number by Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta Jones. Its worth going to see just to watch that alone.

Well I got the DVD, adding to my "Gay Credentials." (Tank top, Musical on DVD... all I need now is some glitter body paint).

The razzle-dazzle translates well to the small screen but the DVD is dissapointingly short of extras. The commentary by Rob Marshal and the Exec Producer is quite good, but along with one deleted number ("Class") and one behind the scenes 30 minute feature, constitutes a pretty mean offering. Me suspects a special edition DVD will be released within six months by the money grabbers at Miramax. I'd probably end up gettign it for more Catheirne Zeta-Jones... she's got such presence in thsi flick... I really feel she was the making of the whole project.

Some good trailers by the way... "The Hours" and "Frida" are two of Miramax's 2002 successes that I also plan to add to my collection.

Interesting to note that with two leading ladies CZJ's name appears first on the cover but Renée's is set ever so slightly higher ;)

They went up against each other for the best Actress in a Comedy or Musical Award at this year's Golden Globes and bizarrely Renée won.
