Just found out the Kino are about to expand their current premises into a two-screen cinema with café/bar ) This is great news for film lovers in Cork!

This is brilliant news, but I wonder ... will it ruin the atmosphere and ambiance? Probably not, in fact it'll probably improve things ten-fold, I just hope they do it with taste and style ...

After going to the IFC a few times in the past few days I have to say that the Kino can do very very well if they expand. The IFC is great and I hope he Kino can do the same. Its a great resource and I think the Atmosphere and Ambiance will only improve with something like this. It will get more film buffs and arthouse lovers to mix more.

I've heard that the Kino is closing down for 9 months to a year due to its expansion? Is this god-awful news TRUE, anyone?!

I've heard nothing to that effect from anybody involved in the Kino. I expect some disruption but a nine month closure seems very far fetched.

That's good news, I'd heard the same story about it closing for a while and have already paniced a few people by telling them.

Yeah, I'm hearing those rumours, as I said, and also that if this happens, they'll be transferring their business to the Triskel for the time they're closed down.
Guess there's nothing for it but to ask them directly...

I spoke to someone in the Kino last night.
The bad news they've confirmed they will be closing down for approximately a year due to the expansion [(][(].
The good news it won't be closing down till March 2004 [)][)].

A year, that's an insane length of time even if it is a suspended sentence

I agree, he said it's possible it may only take 9 months (but still?!), however he felt it was unlikely... and that a year would be how long it should take.
He also mentioned something about them having a once-a-month event of showing a movie or two, in a different location. He wasn't too clear on this, apparently it's an idea that's still being talked about ...
