Saw these on another forum. If you like a person's post you can give them positive rep, if you don't like their post you can give them negative rep. The more positive rep you get the more green dots you get under you r username (of course if you're a very bold boy, you could have red dos :) ). Could be a fun idea for this forum.

As far as I know it's pretty simple to enable them in the Admin control panel.

indeed it is!!

I was tempted to turn it on for a trial!

What do others think?

There is for and against. It might help make thngs more intersting. It might be used for acts of vindictiveness and bitchiness. On the other hand though.... [;-)]
I think itsprobably a good idea though. Might encourage good posting.

its not a bad thing though -

You can see an example at http://www.badminton.ie/forum/index.php, but its only a new thing there...

Shall we give it a trial run?

Why not?

If it doesn't work, just turn the feature off again.

its on.....

if you look at eahc post u will see a weighing scales

e.g.

http://www.gaycork.com/forum/images/buttons/reputation.gif

That allows you to add to a persons reputation...

to see yours look for a green/gray dot:-

http://www.gaycork.com/forum/images/reputation/reputation_pos.gif

and hover over that to see your score!

You should fine more options in your control panel...

It was used on boards.ie, they were problems but I think they were mostly due to the vastly bigger size of boards.ie, it was just too hard to keep track of it. One thing that helped was allowing people to see the usernames of whoever repped them. That got rid of the problem of random neg-repping. The problem that got it shut down was a "Post here and we give you rep for nothing" thread which ended up defeating the purpose of the system. But it should be easy to look out for threads like that here.

I am 'Off The Scale'! Is this a good or a bad thing?

There appears to be only two options currently - off the scale and on the road... tried to change Bootys by giving some good reports about him but it will not allow me to do it to him twice in a row (so to speak), even in different forums.

BTW - I will expect some good reports in return Booty..

Eventually people will move beyond one green dot and we'll see more captions like "splendid one to behold", "glorious beacon of light etc." :)

There goes one of your past-times. I'm sure you'll survive. There's plenty of pesudo counsellors around here who can help anyway.

Oh no, it's ok you see, I too was talking to LeBaron before he died and he commended me on my tastelessness.

Oh Damien, bless....I have better things to spend my time on now, thank you very much. Also as you know very well now I do sign any neg rep I give.

Blame me. I suggested making rep positive only. If you disagree with someone you can state that on the forum for everyone to see. If you have a problem with a post you can PM a mod/admin.

I managed to see the neg reps you were given there Paul, before you edited them out. Seems you were tag teamed by the mods.

I only edited them out 'cos when I copied they were in nice neat table form and when I pasted they looked a mess

Only having pos rep is crap either get rid of it or keep it, why is everyone around here constantly trying to keep everyone happy, newsflash its impossible.

As I said I will review it next month, BUT it seems the best solution for now as neg rep seems to be a big bone of contention..

I agree, we tried the positive only rep thing and the start and found it was better to give the option of both types of rep.

Yes, I agree too, now that it's all visible at least the neg rep givers will have to provide some kind of explanation, if challenged. Like constructive criticism!
