Ryanair also fly to Ciampino Airport and they have alot of information on their site as to how to get to Rome and other practical information. Deadly city well worth a visit if you see his holieness make sure to give him greif.

Jet magic are cool. Leather seats, loads of leg room, no scottish teenage hosties trying to flog you perfume and phone cards. www.virtualtourist.com is a great site for getting local information before a visit.

Hi there!

Ive stayed in Rome alot of times so I hope this information will be useful to you. I have maps and books on the place if you want any drop me a pm.

I have used both Fiumincino (leonardo da vinci), Romes main airport and Ciampino (Ryanair and Jet Magic. Ciampino is a tiny airport, sorta like Kerry international airport. As with any Ryanair destinations it is a bit out of the city. If you arrive there with Ryanair, they usually have a coach hired to bring you into the city centre which is about 25 mins away, and it costs about 8 euro one way.
It is parked in the the front(and only car park) of the airport..ask the coach drivers that are waiting theyll point you in the right direction.

Sometimes Ryanair does not have this coach service running, then you have 2 other options.Taxi or Metro. A taxi into the city centre will cost around 24 euro..dont get scammed, ask the taxi driver how much before you get in.Only get official taxis whcih are white cars and have a meter. If you have luggage they will insist on you putting it in the boot and there is a small handling charge for this( about 2 euro).

There is a public bus service operated by CO.TRA.L from Ciampino airport to Ciampino railway station and Anagnina metro station (line A) - this runs every 30 minutes during the day, about every 45 minutes in the evening. It leaves from outside the departures hall at the airpost where there are ticket machines. The last metro train leaves Anagnina around 11pm so give yourself about a half hour to get there in case of delay. If you are travelling alone beware as this station is a bit dogdy at night but usually there is alot of other tourists around. The metro will bring you into Romes central metro and train station the "Termini" in about half an hour.

It would be a good idea to purchase a CIS - Intergrated Weekly Pass
The CIS - Intergrated Weekly Pass is a weekly version of a transport pass and covers all trams, buses and metros for the whole week. €12.40.It is valid for a week from when you punch it in the little machines in bus, metro or tram. You could get longer out of it if you dont pucnh it but inspectors are quite common and you could get hurled off with a fine if it isnt punched. This ticket is available form dispensing machines in stations or at newsagents.

Tip Buy yourself a map of Rome. Make sure it has the bus/metro/and tram lines on it with their numbers. This was my best buy.pecially if you have little Italian. Another tip..if you plan to visit the Colusseum, go to the Palantino first..costs about 10 euro to get in but there are no ques and you can use that ticket to get into the Colusseum free...the ques here are bloody huge so you can skip past them and pop your ticket in the machine.

Watch for pickpockets too, on crowded transport, they are notorious especially around tourist attractions too like the Trevi fountain.
