saw this in yesterdays echo, guess fever will be in bodega again this month?

Savoy shuts its doors for club renovations

THE Savoy is closed for the month of August for renovations and the venue will not re-open fully until September 5.
When the venue does open its doors once more, it will re-launch its club nights which will include gigs by bands such as The Stunning.

A spokesman said he had been aware of rumours that the Savoy was closing because it was not able to get a licence to allow it to keep operating until 3am.
However, he said this was not true.
“These rumours have snowballed out of control and they are just not true.

“Nowhere in Cork has a 3am licence. Everyone will be in the same position of having to go to court at the end of September to apply for a renewal of their licence and we will be given the same licence as everyone else.
“We carry out renovations every August because it is a quiet month. We have decided to partially close because we are working on the floor and it would be awkward to open.”

You have it wrong Pipedreams, don't believe everything you read in newspapers. It's a licence problem. No you can't serve till 3am but if you do and you get caught well look what happens, read between the lines.

According to the emails that the freakscene crew send around most weeks, it does appear to be a licensing problem. But according to those emails it was more to do with playing music as opposed to the demon drink. Of course I have deleted those emails so I have no way to check them!

Damn me and my obsessive compulsive nature!!

Anyways, if the emails were true and they could only play music till 1.30, then I guess it would make sense to just close shop for a few weeks, do any necessary renovations (lifts, people, have we not heard of lifts???) and then re open when they have a proper licence.

If they're not true... well there's enough rumours going around anyway to keep the gossip hounds going!
