Just a note on the Allen Carr stop smoking book, and Allen Carr himself in general.

I'm about halfway through "Easyway to Stop Smoking". It's OK, but very repetitive.

There's a whole franchise of his stuff - Allen Carr's Easy Way For a WOMAN to Stop Smoking, The Only Way to Stop Smoking Permanently, and books on losing weight and staying off alcoholic.

Does he actually help or is he just a hack?

By the way does anyone know the difference between Easyway to Stop Smoking and The Only Way to Stop Smoking Permanently? As far as I know, you read Easyway first, and then Stop Permanently. Am I right?

Just after reading your post there... I read "The Only Way to Stop Smoking" Allen Carr book found it very good and am still not smoking. You dont have to read the first book and then the second. He says himself that the second book is basicly an improved version of the first one.. some people felt they wanted more so he decided to write a second book. That doesnt mean you should stop reading the first book, finish it and well if you still dont smoke then thats the end result you are looking for.. best of luck with it.

Cheers, thanks gaijin.

Well ... I finished the book, I read it very slowly on purpose, about a chapter a two a day, as somebody told me it was best to read it this way (maybe to let it sink in better? I dunno).

It's good, but hardly life-changing. It's really up to what kind of person and smoker you are. For example, he doesn't believe in nictoine substitues (patches, gum, etc.) whereas I do.

It's a good, common-sense read regardless of whether you've already quit, or are thinking about it, or even if you're a non-smoker who wants to understand a smoker you know better.

But like all hype, it's really not as good as it's made out to be. See also, the topic "Quitting Smoking" - maybe I'm just being more critical cos I'm currently finding it really hard to stay off them.

This topic is about Allen Carr's books, his whole franchise in fact, not just the Easyway to Stop Smoking, so feel free to post about any of his other books. For example, the ones on losing weight, quitting alcohol, stopping worrying, stopping smoking specifically for women ... did they help? are they any good? etc.
