LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL ... MY THOUGHTS ON JEEPERS CREEPERS, AND IT'S IMAGINATIVELY TITLED SEQUEL, JEEPERS CREEPERS 2.
JEEPERS CREEPERS
This movie started off great, creepy and intriguing - with an interesting brother and sister pairing (as opposed to the usual girlfriend and boyfriend, typical of this genre) sparking some witty and acerbic dialogue.
Unfortunately it then goes downhill, descending into a sort of "Jurassic Park 4" kiddie horror movie, and it becomes increasingly clear that the plot was solely conceived from a couple of lines from a song. The ending (I won't reveal it here) particularly highlights this.
What a shame, because the first forty minutes or so are great . . . if only it could have built on the original concept, rather than yielding to it - and throwing in lots of 'scare scenes' of dark hallways and creatures jumping out and screaming characters in order to disguise lack of plot and substance.
Incidentally, there are shades to "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and many other classic horror movies throughout.
JEEPERS CREEPERS 2
An unneccesary (but aren't they always?) sequel to a movie that wasn't all that good to begin with.
It's not quite the worst horror movie I've seen ... but this is hardly a compliment, considering the sheer volume of bad horror movies out there, complete with killer snowmans ("Jack Frost" - and I don't mean the one with Michael Keaton in it!) etc.
Of note is the fact that they (the filmmakers) seem to be trying to make the Creeper a star of horror movies in the 00's, the anti-hero that was Freddy in the 80's.
This movie has a few funny moments. Unfortunately, none of them are intentional.
It IS nice to see Ray Wise in a movie (he was great playing Laura's sinister, funny and bizarre father, Leland Palmer, in the "Twin Peaks" TV show and movie) after so long - but it doesn't save this crap.
A bad, boring, overlong movie - and it's not even gory or suspenseful.
Avoid.
By the way, a friend of mine just read a review of it which said it was the first gay horror movie ever! Yeah, right, just because you see a lot of guys sunbathing - and one guy is referred to as Isn't he or Is he (gay, that is).
Here's an interesting review I found on www.imdb.com

Summary "I shot it in the head. With a homemade harpoon gun."
Like it's predecessor, I found Jeepers Creepers 2 enjoyable for the first 40 minutes and even found the Creeper a better bad guy (the fact that he was driving that stupid truck was pretty much where the first movie lost me). Dialogue starts off snappy and the horror genre gets subtly subverted (a gay hero and black guys that don't get killed first?) but, as before, writer/director Salva just goes and spunks all the promise away. By the time we're down to really dumb stuff involving psychic cheerleaders and lots of unimaginative deaths, I was way past caring for anybody. And [SPOILER ALERT] the flash forward to 23 years later was the final straw - crap.
