JELLO BIAFRA
For those unaware, Jello Biafra, former lead singer/songwriter of the seminal punk band Dead Kennedys, is a renowned social commentator and spoken word artist. He is also a key ingredient in the band Lard (an ongoing recording project with members of Ministry) and The No Wto Combo, an impromptu "super-group". He began his spoken word career in early ’86, when he found himself thrust into the role of spokesperson on censorship and First Amendment rights during the Dead Kennedys "Frankenchrist" trial- the first case in history to try a recorded work for obscenity. Numerous albums later, this former Green Party Presidential nominee and former San Francisco mayoral candidate continues to be a high profile political speaker. The founder of Alternative Tentacles Records, Jello believes strongly in civil liberties, vigorously promoting individualism and freedom of artistic expression in all mediums. He has released two spoken word releases over the last year entitled "Machine Gun In The Clown's Hand" and "The Big Ka-Boom, Part One" (on Alternative Tentacles).

Sorry to resurrect a long dead thread but Jello was back in Cork again this weekend with his band the interestingly titled Guantanamo School of Medicine, my gig of the year so far I think. Been a long time since I've seen the main performer start stage diving! Still as political as ever.
