Who's your favourite student in BBC's Fame Acadmey? Alex, the tomboy from Cornwall is representing the queer brigade with gust. She might be the youngest contesatnt but vocally she is by far and away the most mature. I also like Alistair and Carolynne. Peter, the token grungey kid is easy on the eye but can't sing, hasn't shown any song writing talent and looks a tad ridiculous on stage.

I'm newly converted to the Church of Alistair... and Carolynne, whom I hated at first is growing on me. at the moment I'd rate the students in this odred or preference...
Alex
Alistair
Carolynne
Kevin
Peter
Paris

Enjoyed the first season more though. Don't really see any of them having a successful music career but that's not what these TV shows are really about is it?

alex...alex....alex....alex...

sorry what were we talking about?

oh I do hope she wins. Twud be great to see how the general public react to her, and how the record company would market her. Hopefully they'd go with her current style (angsty rockpop), and not try and change her.

I think alex is the most talented artist in their. But this show will be won by the person with broad mainstream appeal (a la The Sneddon) therefore I think Alistair is more likely to win a public vote, should he get to the final three. I think it might be better for Alex if she didn't win, what is a glorified talent contest in a way. Her and Peter are the two students with least to gain from emerging victorious from the Academy.

Wouldn't they make a gorgeous couple?

Alex Parks, an out of work clown from Cornwall last night won Fame Academy. Her rendition of John Lennon's Imagine was show stoping as was the weird and unhinged behaviour of "internatinal superstar" Daniel Bedingfield.

She was fantastic last night and truly deserved to win.
Hope she has a long future ahead of her.

I know she won and that many people really like her - but I have to say, I do NOT see the attraction of her vocal skills. I find it quite difficult to listen to it and am amazed she won. I do see she is an amzing performer - her eyes are very captivating - but vocally, there were much better in the FAME ACADEMY HOUSE.

its the strangeness of her voice that is so capitvating. The second you hear it, you know who it is. If you saw how quiet the entire room of ppl were that invaded my flat to watch the final, you'd be astounded. Much screaming and messing and that through all the other performances but as soon as Alex would take the stage then straights and gays alike would just sit mesmerised.

One doesn't have to have perfect vocal skills to be a fabulous singer. It's the emotion behind it...a la Annie Lennox, Sinead O Connor...

Both Annue Lennox and Sinead O Conner have FANTASTIC VOICES - powerful and unique.

Alex is the only "reality TV" musician whose album I would consider buying. All depends on how she develops post Academy. Vocally she will always be astounding but I think she has a long way to go as a song writer. If she is given some material and collaborates witht he right people her first record could surprise a lot of people. In my opinion, she is the first person from the whole search for a star TV phenomenon that has any chance of making any real impact on the British music scene... but I wouldn't bet my house on it!

The problem with POP REALITY TV SHOWS is that we know everything about them before their single/album comes out and we are bored straight away. The likes of WESTLIFE, BOYZONE etc, we knew nothing (or very little) about them when they came out first. So SMASH HITS MAGS etc were full (and still are) of articles about the name of their cats, their fav ice cream etc etc. BUt the Will Youngs etc have none of this mysterious appeal - cause we've watched them for weeks and (probably the most important thing) is they are 'us'. These people are NOT STARS, they are ordinary joe soaps. WE NEED STARS who didn't come from nowhere, we wanted SUPERSTARS, Madonnas, J-Lo's, not Mickey Joes etc.

I don't think Alex Park's target market is the Smash Hits teeny bopper though. Alistair was always the favourite on the CBBC and hence will probably crash and burn like all the TV pop puppets do. Alex *might* transcend all that with the right management and the proper opportunities to mature as an artist. Winnign Fame Academy will give her great exposure and great inital sales... whether she can cast off the tag and impress as a credible artist remains to be seen.

Alex has released a hastily recorded debut single to cash in on her fame acadmey success. "Maybe That's What It Takes" is a slef penned ballad she came up with whilst in the Academy. Any reviews?
