Soaps. Generally poor writing, poor acting, poor storylines, require morse suspension of disbelief than most sci fi shows yet they consistently pull in the highest ratings on TV. Even people who claim to never watch them will tend to have some idea of the major events in saopland. Excluding The Riordans, Bracken and Glenroe I've compiled a list of eight of Ireland's favourites.

What if you watch Eastenders, Corrie, Fair City and occasionally Emmerdale?


I admit to being a soap addict.

Corri is my ultimate favourite, the acting in that is unbelievable, and it has always mastered the balance between comedy and drama, unlike Eastenders, which, while really good, is so depressing it should carry a health warning.

Yes, I have trouble believing they are paid actors at times too.

Do you mean that you have trouble believing they are being paid for their acting because it's so bad, or you have trouble believing they're actors because it's so good?

HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT??

The English soaps have some of the best acting in on television.

The dramatic scenes are brilliant.

There isn't an actor on Corrie that couldn't hold their own, and you can almost say the same for Eastenders.

Even Keith Duffy is good in coronation street

Yeahm his character is really after growing on me.


In fairness, he really plays the charmer irish rogue very well.

Yeah, takes so much ability to play a tired clichéed stereotype.
He was brilliant when he used to act as a musician though. Fooled thousands of prepubescent girls didn't he?
