Hey all,

As mentioned recently, we've decided that it's time the forum was re-organized a little.

We're thinking of getting rid of gay men's, lesbian and bisexual boards. The lesbo and bi boards don't get that many posts, and most of the topics in the gay men's section could be put almost anywhere else. Everybody just posts wherever they like anyway, regardless of gender, and we also think these boards might be a bit divisive (?). So we were thinking along the lines of

• General Board
• Upcoming Events/Notice Board
• Scene
• Entertainment
• Personal Issues & Advice
• Site Feedback & Requests

Not that different to what we've got at the moment, just a bit more streamlined. Feedback and suggestions on the above are more than welcome.

Could you subdivide one or two of the above? Maybe split Entertainment up like was suggested before? (music/film/books etc.). "General boards" sounds very sterile, would be good to keep something along the lines of "life is an odyssey".

I'm all in favor of paring down the number of subdivisions. The tree structure can get a bit confusing. But maybe that's just cause of more used to the linear structure of da peoples republic. This re-organization above seems good.

I just look at active tpics all the time anyway, so don't really notice the divisions. when I'm browsing. The only time I notice the divisions is when I go to post, and I find it more comfortable posting in a less crowded forum.

I think there should be a seperate board for Gay Politik and Rights type stuff... lumoping it in with Personal Issues and Advice is a bit silly.
The Entertainment board has enough traffic to have specific Books, TV, Film, Music sections I feel.

in "who's online" you get all the details of the person, name, possible ways to talk to them (msn, aol, icq and yahoo messenger) and you also get a link to their profile but there is no option to pm them.
if you see someone online that you want to talk to you generally have to go to "members" look for them there and then you can pm them. would it be possible to put a pm option in whosonline next to each person as they appear online?

Is the mispelling of lesbian as lesbain intentional?

lone voice of desent here

Well everyone else seams to like the changes but I have to say I liked the old structures.

The new fourm of Queer folk will probably be very busy and as people only tend to read first pages of post lists less comtented on threads will soon dissappear form view quite quickly. So I think threads which cover less popular topics and more slow burning threads which get a lot of coments but have big gaps with no posts will suffer.

And I would also be worried that new people viewing the queer folks list will find it harder to spot post on bi, trans, or lesbian topics even though they are in there somewhere, and so think the site is mainly gayboys, which it isn't. One great think about the site is how diverse it is.

They are just my fears about the changes.

yes i spelt it wrong - was in a rush sorry [;-)][;-)]

RubberBoy - I agree with what you are saying, but Cork is small enough - those divisions however will exist on gaycork.com big national sister site (you know the one i mean)
