Disco_Kev & I just went to see this Roman Polanski movie in the Kino. An excellent epic movie, with a fine central performance from Adrian Body (who was excellent also in Spike Lee's "Summer of Sam"). The move is less hyped than Spielberg's "Schindler's List". Subtle, dark, and heart-rending, it wrings emotion out of you as if you were a sponge. Excellent cinematography too. Recommended, but it does drag on a bit towards the end...

heartrending! thats an understatement. watched it with the gf a few months back. was struggling with the floods of tears towards the end of the film, as was starting to not be able to see the screen )
am a sucker for sad music, and hell, this film has loads of it.

Yes it does, and it's not sensationlised like Schindler's List was. Polanski realises the material speaks for itself. Such horrendous assaults were inflicted on these poor people; there's no need to hype it up, or over-dramatize just showing it is effective.

Schindler's List meets Life is Beautiful. Epic is one word. Don't want to see it again, though. Once is more than enough. Powerful piece of cinema. Very well done.

Ever read the Leon Uris book Exodus about the foundation of the jewish state and the history of those involved ? Tells a lot about the jews during the Nazi era. Partly read it in 6th class in Primary School. Nasty nasty stuff.
