I think its fantastic - You're A Star was Satans brainchild.
Brian Kennedy is a fantastic vocalist - just don't know if he's eurovisiony enough?

Lacka, I know what you mean by Eurovisiony enough, I don't think he meets that certain Eurovision criteria.

Your A Star is coming back! But this year the winners get money and a recording contract instead of being sent to the eurovision!

you're a star is no loss, (and they had decided to ull the plug on it months ago). My big problem is with Brian Kennedy. His 'music' makes my ears bleed (except for the bit he did with Lumen as the 1995 eurovision interval act).

Its starting next Sunday and they have Brendan O'Connor as a Judge! I like him but what does he know about talent, singing etc... I know he was a Judge on the Charity You're a Star. He's too critical but then again I suppose that's what they want, possibly the Irish equivalent of Simon Cowell???

Listen Fruit and LT if you heard him singing Crazy Love live it would send shivers up your spine. I won't have a bad word said about Brian[=;] and he has a great sense of humour to. I think he's fab, end of.

Right I've come up with a great idea, get Brian Kennedy to sing with the Cork Gay Choir**at the Eurovision in Athens, sweet music. I'm sure that entry would then definately win the Eurovision and the campness would be off the scale completly!!!
Can I patent that idea?????[:-?]

Hmm..... I was under the impression u couldnt be a professional singer already to go to eurovision. Hmm.... shows what i know bout Eurovision!
If thats the case, why dont we send over U2 or somthing?!!! (if we want to win) and Daneil O Donnell if we want the world to hate us forever and ever and ever.......... I curse the woman who gave birth to that man.... nothing but a glorified wedding singer... and a bad one at that!!!

Who in god's name decided Brian Kennedy was a good idea? I can't stand him. I'd prefer Daniel O'Donnel representing us any day over that whinny little pillock. Even those people who performed last year would be better.

I really don't think Brian Kennedy is Eurovision material at all...I think Brian Kennedy and I think earnest, over-wrought ballads.
Where are the sequins? the three minute long melodrama? the transexuals with feathers?
Give us what we want, bitches!!!

So will we get out of the semi finals this year with Brian singing for us?

I doubt it. Unless he brings an old woman onstage to bang a drum, the Eastern block countries won't get it.
Mind you, they wouldn't get it if it came in a bag marked "IT".

Suppose we can't do any worse with him than me have done in the last few years.
I was watching reeling in the years last night and in 1996 we had won the Eurovision for the fourth time in five years. Those were the days!

U2 = over rated rubbish, bono try writing lyrics that actually make sense.
The cunts = andrea corr can shove that tin whistle up her snatch.
The cranberries = my god her voice drives me insane and what the fuck was zombie about like.
The thrills = vomit inducing crap and what is up with that faux yank accent when your man is singing?
never heard of the devilns, the frames, a house, snow patrol, or jerry fish.

What in the name of God has the Top 10 (or the charts at all) got to do with good music!!
If you think that good music is only music that makes it to the top 10 you really missing out on a lot - everyones taste is different - most of the music I love wouldn't be found on the charts - doesn't mean it's bad - just means that it isn't purchased by the leagues of pre-pubescent girls that put Westlife at No.1!!
I realise that there is loads of good music in the charts but it doesn't automatically follow that if something isn't on the charts that it's "bad"

Jesus Christ Joe of course you've heard of the Devlins (Bulmers ad - there is a light) A House were in the late 80s early 90s so I'll give you that one. There's loads more other good quality Irish bands.

what do you mean what was Zombie about?? Hello, it's pretty clear!

Nula i have never seen that add so i can honestly say i have never heard of them.
Lacka i never said that having a song in the top 10 meant that it was good music and apologies for not making myself clearer. what i meant was that most people will not pay attention to music that is not given regular airplay and if an artist cannot make it into the charts then they are widely viewed as being a bit shit even if that is not the case.
A song needs to speak to me on some level i need to believe in what the artist is singing about in order for me to connect with them, "zombie" just didn't do it for me at all, i just find her voice to be extremely grating.
I like to think that i have a very wide and varied taste in music and in my opinion i just don't think brian kennedy has what it takes to win a contest plus the fact that you could fry chicken on that mans smile.

Now, now, now what’s wrong with wee Daniel, that’s a terrible thing to say about our own wee Daniel.

Wee Daniel had his penis removed by his mother at birth ...FACT!
Now, I think the Eurovision should be banned from the telly as it is liked by all those gays and other degenerates.
I would rather a Eurovision-like programme based on tidy towns and local irrigation and drainage projects. Who ever has the cleanest sewers and tidiest parks free of kids wins![:-D]

What exactly is the fascination with eurovision? i can never seem to get into it so just wondering why people are so taken with it.

Yea Nula
Have booked flights and accom.already for Athens .Tickets arent going on sale till the New year so will have to wait and see.As for Brian kennedy yea he is a decent singer not my cup of tea.
It will of course depend on the song but I can see him doing anything up-beat Eurovision style.Maybe a trad Irish style similar to The Voice may do well .
I dunno though I was watching the Kiev contest last night and I think Brian will probarbly be quite similar to last years Croation entry. It seems this chap was huge at home and in that area of Europe but I dont think his style of music was suited at all to Eurovision.
Last years runner - up from Serbia/Montenegro was a great song and quite traditional for that area so I think that might be the way to go.
Also RTE seem to be taking the song quite serious this year with Brendan Graham and Shay Healy involved .Have they not learned anything fro the last few years at Eurovision. Its really irrelevant what words are in the song.I mean "MY NUMBER ONE" hardly has the most meaning ful lyrics likewise "dial up my didy" from Ruslana the 2004 winner and in 2003 the runner-up was in a made up language .!!!!!????
Come on RTE what you need for Eurovision is a "show stopper" 3 minute-hit them hard between the eyes and dazzle them performance.Yes the ballads did great for Ireland but that was maybe 13 years ago.!!!!!You cant look back anymore just forward. I think "LOVE ? " was heading in the right direction now before I get murdered I am not saying it was brilliant but it was heading that way.
Anyway thats my rant over.Hope all are well.
Kisses

I'm with you there Joe. My friend is obsessed with it. Throw out any year to him and he'll be able to tell you all the entrants, who won that year, points etc. He's like a walking encyclopaedia on the Eurovision!

I know Joe you may be right.Whilst I was watching last nights I had to laugh but it was like a glorified Karaoke competition.I really dont know why people get so excited and wound up over it (including myself here). But you know what its fun[:-))]

I think it's lost its sparkle since the homogenisation of musical styles. Bar a few acts it's no longer easy to tell where a particular singer is from. I reckon they should bring back that rule about having to sing in your mother tongue and re-inject some much-needed faded eighties EEC glamour into the thing!
Sheila Fits
16th November 2005, 03:48 PM
What about not telling us the country the act is from. Just the relevant telephone or text number.[:-P]
That way when people are voting it would be on their favoutite song not on the country that song is from.[:-))]
It might help in some way to get rid of "bloc voting "
