Its fantastic. Like nothing you've seen before (that is, if you haven't seen much japanime).

Its one of those rare movies where you never know whats gonna happen in the next five minutes.

I have been waiting for this for a year or two now. Going to Dublin next week and I hope its still in the IFC when I get up there. It doesn't seem to be showing in Cork. Pity that.

Last time I checked it was still showing in UGC (the old virgin cinema)

Ignore him. He only fell asleep for 5 mins. It's a good film. A bit nonsensical, but then again it did make me laugh at times. The music score, as damien pointed out is excellent, brought a lump to my throat at several times even when I thought the actual scene was a bit crap. Some of the anime landscapes really took my breath away as well. It was a bit too sugary sweet in places (especially the ending) but overall it was entertaining.

Soundtrack is on my wishlist. It really was the best score I've heard in a long while. ( Actually I'm listening to the Amelie soundtrack now. The film and music rocks my homo box. Yann Tiersen is playing the Triskel soon.)

Back on topic. The story was very good and I followed it well enough unlike some. It had a lot of Japanese mythology I think. Animation was astounding, the love story was very sweet, some of the supporting characters were very funny especially the baby and the bird when they were in their other forms.

Its rare when you are laughing out loud at things that are happening offscreen in an anime while the main plot is still happening in front of you.

I might get this on dvd when it comes out. Well worth watching (and staying awake for )

Just went to see this earlier today, it was fantastic! So surreal and beautiful with a wonderfully convoluted plot. The ending veered towards sentimentality a bit but not too much thankfully. I didn't understand why she called the old twin witches "Grandma", anyone know why?

One of my favorite films of this year.
The beginning starts out a little Disney-ish
but it soon becomes all wonderful and strange.
The animation is beautiful and the characters are great.
Definately worth seeing. (I saw it in the theatre and then rented it at home)

Just to warn anyone planning on buying the Region 1/NTSC DVD of "Spirited Away" it's the edited-for-American-audiences and English-dubbed version. The Region 2/PAL will be version in Kino (a.k.a Japanese language, no American editing, English subtitles) but a release date has yet to be set...
