*fume* my computer decided it would die last night, after hours of crying & screaming and much hair pulling & gnashing of teeth, i managed to run a diagnostic thingy on it only for it to come back with "your hard drive is fucked ha ha"
Of course the cunt at the computer store was no help either "yeah your hard drive is buggered" OH THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POINTING OUT THE BLOODY OBVIOUS. apparently its going to be cheaper to buy a whole new system, which of course is out of the question as i can barely afford to be broke.
I know i'm over reacting but my whole life was on that computer and now its gone and its like i've lost a limb and can't get it back.
of course matters were not helped when admin sent me the cunting sisters cd in the post this morning which was promptly jumped up and down on and flung out the window.
i have now been reduced to using an ancient computer (6gb hd and 64mb ram) just to get online.

Surely if it's just the hard drive that is buggered you should be able to replace it fairly cheaply...
Komplett are fairly good for prices or try your luck at Cash Convertors for a second hand one.
Of course you will lose all your documents/precious pics/porn but you will have a clean hard drive to fill up again!

Thanks for the suggestion it is much appreciated however as i mentioned earlier cash flow is a major problem at the moment so i will be stuck using this old pc for at least another year.

I sympathise Joe, really I do, but you do need to be backing stuff up. I have two backups of my porno, one to an external firewire drive and one to an ever-increasing collection of CDs. It is the only way!!

the porn i can handle losing as its not really that important and can be downloaded again, its just things like pictures of friends and family and projects that i had been working on that are not so easy to replace.
I would love a mac but they are so damn expensive although that mini mac thingy is a reasonable price and all you need is the monitor & keyboard & mouse to plug into it which i already have, i assume the monitor, keyboard, mouse that i used with my pc would work on a mac? can anyone shed some light on this?

Look for someone who specialises in computer repair, there's a good chance they could recover much of the data from your hard drive.

I'd kill myself if anything happened to my computer.
How did it happen?

i have no idea how it happened but my pc had been acting strange for the last few weeks shutting itself off for no reason and was taking ages to load up programs which i thought was strange as i had a lot of memory on it and the good old pentium 4 chip.

That happened to my computer years ago.
I've learned my lesson.
I regularly scan my computer for loads of crap..using lots of programs.
Do you do that Joe?

25th December 2005, 07:26 PM
Yup i use zone alarm for my firewall
and i use ad-aware, spyware blaster, spybot search and destroy, avast anti virus as well as a nice little program called crap cleaner.
My system was totally clean the day it crashed so its just down to a shitty hard drive.

If you go for the Mac mini please remember that a back-up is still necessary... it doesn't happen often but HD failure does happen and data recovery is just too expensive to consider, even for precious porn! ....
any usb keyboard and mouse are okay to use with a mac mini but when it comes to the monitor be careful and make sure it works, not every single one is compatible.
and being in cork there are plenty of people around who know about macs and I'm sure you'll find one or two willing to help you out with finding your way around at the start or should you encounter some trouble later on.
I love Apple, happy with my iBook and wouldn't go back to Bill Gates for the world!!!!
