Amnesiac is takign advantage of a Ryanair sale and is booking cheap flights to London in December. The trouble is I've never been adn don't know London at all. Would anybody have any recommendations for a central, cheap hotel. Not looking for any luxuries just one with good security and a somewhat decent location.

There was one near Piccadilly circus I stayed in before. Look up hotels in the area. think it had some posh name like the grand royale or something like that.

Hi Amnesiac, I'd say your best bet would be the Regent Palace Hotel. Its right on Picadilly Circus, less than 5 mins walk from Soho & Compton St ( where its all at )and is very reasonable. They have two room types - Standard ( you have to share a bathroom ) and " Regent Rooms " ( which have thier own bathroom ) - I'd recommend the later.

Have a great weekend

What about Jury's Inns or Ibis hotels....they can be cheap enough...certainly were the cheapest of the lot when i was in Manchester last year

well if you are going alone then its not really an option...but if there's a few sharing a room then its not too bad...unless you want some "privacy" of course ;-) Also, check out that last site. Sometimes they have special offers, 4 nights for the price of two and all that sort of thing. Did you try go4less.ie

No but I already have hotel staff on OUT vying for me to stay in their establishments. And who said it was less sleazy than Gaydar?!?!

Hey Amnesiac, my but you are a popular boy !
To be honest I have not stayed there myself, I tend towards the Park Lane.[8D]
My bud who recomended it spoke very well of it, then again I dont think mere neon would interfere with his bedroom activities, he is very focused, bless his little palpating heart.
I am going to try it out next time round just for the sheer laziness of the location, so if you do stay there let us know how you got on ( with the hotel , and anything else you would like to share with us )

Amnesiac - I've stayed in the Regent's Palace before . When I lived in London it used to be very popular with the Irish, bus tours and football crowds, and of course a great place to book in for a no questions asked shag, with the latest score from one of the nearby gay bars. Don't know what it's like these days, but those beds used to be awful lumpy and there was no way you could ever get to sleep (not that I ever booked in there for a rest!) with the sound of the all-night Soho traffic, which died down just around 500am ready for the bin men and delivery men to take over.
If you're looking for somewhere quiet and restful - Don't get there!!
