What course do you want to do?

Then you should talk to Passionfruit on here, he's doing that CIT course and he loves loves LOVES it!!!! Also, if you have a Mac, pvt message me, I can get you a bundle of free design and animation software... I am in the Crawford but multimedia (CGI animation) is my minor.

And you'll GET the points: if that's the course you really want then wait for second and even third round places, if you don't get offered it the first time!

I love Multimedia too... I love art combined with Graphic and I.T... My best(est) friend April Curtin is attending Crawford... she's a dote and she has fab taste... I went for an interview in May for Crawford.... it was unbelievable.

Still doesn't mean you should slack though

Oh i'm well past all that now lol
I did Earth Sciences in UCC for all my sins, I had my fun. Some of the best years of my life. Probably gonna go back and do either history or geography. Much more useful and practical in the real world [;-)]

Now that's just not true. You are not fucked if you don't pass, it'd just be a change of plan. Teachers and parents put so much fucking emphasis on the Leaving Cert, I wish they really understood just how damaging that kind of pressure can be. Most of our parents went to school at a time when an Inter Cert wasn't even a requirement, and teachers are so jaded by the time they get sixth years to teach that they've forgotten just how counterproductive a "Points! Points! POINTS!!!" stance really is.

You will not fail, you will perform to the best of your ability given your circumstances on the day. And in the final analysis, that's all anyone can ask you to do.

First of all: Shiva,,,
History is cool... In my opinion Art History is better...
Geography has a whole new course..... which i'm freakin out over... its been changed alottttttttttt......... Although i agree..... History and Geography nowadays are alot more practical.......

Secondly: Admin......
I started in Perks when i was eleven as the famous "Perky-bear".. hehehehe
the memories got longer...... but nothing has changed!!!!

Just do your best - by which I mean don't even consider for a second comparing yourself to your friends, that's a waste of time and energy because they are not you, and vice versa - and that is all you can do! You'll be fine, just fine. See you in Cork then! You should come to the next meet-up, we're a lovely bunch of people [:-D]

Meet ups happen quite regularly, keep an eye on this forum for details, it's all very casual. We usually meet in the Clarion bar (gorgeous hotel bar with table service!!) and then on to Instinct, for those of us who need more drink...

And stop comparing yourself!! It's totally unfair: apples and oranges, unless your friends are clones of you there is absolutely no basis for comparison! Wish them well but concentrate on yourself: you are far more important to yourself than they are!

I'm sure they're lovely, brainy people! But my point is that they're not you... so any comparison has no common ground to start from, which kind of defeats the purpose of a comparison in the first place.

I have to admit your rite.... i mean they are excellent when it comes to the usual, but i rule "Art, Computers & French"......... everyone to their own.
Dunno, its now that you wish you listened to the EXTREMELY BORING teachers that annoyed you for the 5 or 6yrs in Coláiste Eoin(Oh thats my school)......
Do you in your own opinion think that crammin' works...... for anyone?????

I got 475 points in my leaving cert but if it hadn't been for my Holy Trinity of Art, English and German, I'd have scored somewhere in the low 300s.... play to your strengths!!!

To be honest, I paid way more attention to Art History and English than anything else, and I got an A1 in Art and a B1 in English... I figured that if I focused on the subjects I was naturally good at then the rest would make up the balance.

I love Art History... I got a B1 in that for my pre... came up to Honours two weeks before the Exam and Did really well... was so proud of myself...
As for English again came up to Honours one month before the Exam... Just about learnt everything to know about "King Lear, Antigone, How many miles to Babylon and Witness".... but knew nothing(at that time) about the poets/poems.... so i didnt attemp that question or the unseen poetry... i scaped a D1... jus scraped it..... i need honours for the Multimedia course in C.I.T.

Welcome,
Don't worry about the exams, its such a small thing in the wider spectrum of things. Alot of pressure is put on it because parents and teachers alike are mostly from or born around the time when it was an effort to be in schook past primary so they have a different scope on things. Nowadays things are alot harder to achieve and goals are set at higher standards but the difference is our generation has the ability to achieve these goals where as the older generation very often didn't and I think they're trying to help you by getting an education now etc. If you put in the work now, then you wont have to later.... God I've lost my point, probably at the end of this bottle of wine lol.... Anyway the L.C. isn't the be all and end all...
Much love and welcomes

Tell me about it, I know it SOOOO well. Its a nice town and I loved growing up there, but I could not live there now; I've really gotten to love Cork city, and have no fears you will love it up here.

You should check out the Youth Group Unite, it will be a great place for you to meet other gay people of the same age [:-D]

Welcome to gaycork Corkboi!
The leaving vert is a stressful time no doubt. Just try to maintain a level head at all times - and remember that, as others here have told you, its not the be-all-and-end-all. I did a poorer than expected LC but I'm doing ok now. Just trust yourelf and forget everything else.
Best of luck!

Hiya and welcome to the party. Just cause your doing a hair course doesn't make you a drama queen and your not going to be judged because of that [:-D]
As for accomodation there are several ways to get it, on average pay around 300 euro a month.
The evening echo paper usually has a few in it. Local ads in Tesco etc. Flat finders and Choices also do accomodation around town, they are based around Washington street so not too far out to find.
