This summer I tend to go to sleep around 5am and get up at 10am. Five hours sleep IS plenty... and gin-seng is a god-sned now I'm caffeine-reduced ;)

ditto, i sleep at about 3-ish, get up at 8-ish...thats on a good nite.
unfortunately the gf sleeps at about midnite, so theres a few hours in which i have to amuse meself (minds out of the gutter).

tho i have been known to do 14 hour marathon sleeps every couple of months, as a battery-recharging kinda thing

bit of a chronic imsomniac myself. Have been known to go several nights in a row without sleep then crash and sleep for 14 hours straight. Have given up caffeine now, am excercising and trying to stick to a sleep schedule so hope that helps (though now I'm getting quantity but not quality, keep waking up during the night, tossing and turning, and waking up feeling as shit as when I went to bed -( )

oh my god, i thought everyone slept as much as i do. i go to bed around 11pm and get up around 12.30pm the following day. i sleep like a log.

when im in college i go to bed around 10pm and get up at 8am.
i sleep for the whole thing.

i hear ya. I swear when I wake up that I've not slept a wink, because I'm actually more tired than I would be at 2am.
I too gave up coffee, and cut out most sugar, as was gettin very fidgety from it. That helped a bit, but am still takin hours to get to sleep.

Its been shown now that 5 hours is too little and that we should all get 8 hours or more. I find my memory gets messed up if I don't get enough sleep. My friends will testify to my sucky memory.

For a good nights sleep to some heavy weights in a gym. I find I sleep like I'm dead after doing a few sets of 120kg squats. [)]

oh! that makes sense. I have the worst memory known to man
(Indeed, I've actually forgotten my own name (whilst completely sober!) and theres the time I forgot my date of birth....)

redbulljunkie

I've been known to do that as well with forgetting important dates, especially birthdays. Remember my parents saying to me one day, guess who's birthday it is, and I was all "oh god, who do I have to think of a present for now?" and it turned out to be my birthday.

My sleep patterns are always f**ked up. Not sure if I have insomnia but it often feels like that, then there's the crashing and sleeping days away. I always sleep better during the day, than at night. Is that weird? It's hard to explain cos I've never worked night shifts or anything.

You just have to force yourself to stay a wake during the day (not with coffee and proplus tho) Then you will sleep at night! Your body can get used to having either too much sleep or doing with little sleep. For years i would only sleep 4 hours a night! and feeling fine (i did have to continue that during the weekend aswell tho) 1 of my friends needs nearly 10 hours every night cos she's used to it! You can train your body to cope with less sleep

I never sleep during the day (to ensure I get at least SOME sleep at night). But still no better, I think I just am on the wrong body clock. I mean if I miss my alarm and sleep till 12 or something, then get up, go to work (am a research student, doesnt matter if I'm late) at 2ish, i can still do 8 hours work, and it'll be damn better work at that! i feel i just am not meant to be awake at 8am...
who made up that silly rule!

God, was I disappointed with this thread. I read it as - does anyone "sleep around" here, as opposed to -does anyone sleep "around here".

Pity.

If I don't get 8 hours sleep then there's usually trouble... Thing is, if i go to bed late, i hate the thought of sleeping on in the morning, my body forceably wakes me up at 10 at the latest anytime that happens. However power naps rule, especially the ones that only last 20 minutes and you wake up as fresh as daisy!!! (Well fresh, except for the drool that's making yet another inconvenient stain on the pillow!)

redbulljunkie

yes, and the build-up of residue in your eyes and the dull headache etc. Apart from that though fress as a daisy!

Is there actually a name for that crusty stuff that builds up in your eyes?

sleep n.

1a. A natural periodic state of rest for the mind and body, in which the eyes usually close and consciousness is completely or partially lost, so that there is a decrease in bodily movement and responsiveness to external stimuli. During sleep the brain in humans and other mammals undergoes a characteristic cycle of brain-wave activity that includes intervals of dreaming.
b. A period of this form of rest.
c. A state of inactivity resembling or suggesting sleep;
unconsciousness, dormancy, hibernation, or death.

2. Botany The folding together of leaflets or petals at night or in the absence of light.

3. A crust of dried tears or mucus normally forming around the inner rim of the eye during sleep.

I just had to check if it was only my family that used the word sleep to describe that. Found this at dictionary dot com.

As for my sleep pattern. I don't think its insomnia. But I can realte to Tank Girl's sleep pattern. I woke at 11 today, but I'll get a few hours work in after this little break. I'm also a research student so I can work my own hours, to a point. Some how my sleep pattern just doesn't match conventional working hours. When I was studying for my degree I always do my best work from say 10 pm till 1 or 2.[?]
