hey there everyone. ok there was a thread recently "gay soccer" which was pretty much just asking if anyone was up for a game of soccer some time but then it got bitchy, so i am asking first of all if we can leave the bitching off this thread.

right, i want to organise a five aside game between the members here, so realistacly we should get 12 people to make it work, 1 sub for each team but the more the merrier.
the teams can be made up of men or women or a mix but it all depends on the numbers. anyone that wants to take part can.

sport is suppossed to be about fun and teamwork and that is the aim of this, to have a good time. so what i am asking ye is that if there is anyone interested in playing that ye can post it here or pm me and i will keep ye informed of what is happening.

come on people its all in the aid of fun. and im sure that we can visit a local watering hole after for some light refreshments.

(and by the by, i am the worst soccer player ever so dont be embarrased if its not your thing or you think you cant play, i will out preform everybody with my talentless unskillfull moves. its all for a good time.)

ok, we got 2 people, anyone else. if we can get 10 people it will do. so all we need is 8 more people who have no shame and are willing to embarass themselves, all in the aid of fun remember

goalpost,

The omision of bisexuals from the posters was an unfortunate error and was not intentional.

Didn't something like that happen too for Pride Week in UCC ? )

An anti-bisexual conspiracy??? ) How queer!
Yeah there was an ommission of the word Bisexaul in one UnEx article during Pride Week but it was an editorial error which WASN'T the fault of the UCC LGB. In fact, we're an extremely bi group as it happens...

Slayer

at this point you're abusing punmanship.

Lucifer
12th August 2003, 10:50 PM
There's nothing I like better than a bit of punupmanship over everyone else [8D]
Also to Amnesiac "We are an extremely bi group"? Not that I've noticed. Although it has to be said that I would win the "Most Unobservant Person In The World" award if I realized that the ceremony was on.

Slayer
14th September 2003, 09:23 PM
Well, unless they did and didn't tell me it didn't(although, there's a fair chance they didn't tell me cos they'd be afraid I'd kick their bony little asses)

I know this topic is old and probably considered dead but it relates to something thats happening with me at the moment.

I work for this company and next month, theres a soccer match planned against another company. I explicitly tod the organiser that i cant kick a ball out of my own way to save my life. That however was my downfall as now my name is on the team. I think they all know that Im gay and are just putting me on the team for a laugh.

so what will I do? pretend I have something else on that day and vanish, or play on the team and hope for the best? Im really going to look like such a girl out there! I dont even understand the game! sure, the score a goal thing, but off side? yellow cards.. red cards? huh? And the worst thing is, these guys working here are all straight so probably can play really well. Im going to die!

Maybe if I get some of the girls to sign up for the team... that way I wont be the main focus and can just laugh at the whole thing with them. I know this may seem so stupid to everyone, but Im seriously worried! And the best thing is, and i dont want to miss it, that after the match, its going to turn into a big drinking session, all paid for by the company.

I guess Im worrying too much. But any advise on what i should do would be handy... Say maybe i try running around all the time, kick the ball only if it comes my way. How many people play on a team anyway? Surely I can avoid the ball for, how long does a game go on for? an hour? Help

I play soccer three times a week. There is no rule that says gay men can't play sport just as well as heterosexual men. It's only a work event - be a man, play the game and enjoy it

I play soccer a lot too (three times a week), and I don't find my sexuality inhibits my talent. (Oh modesty)
However I happen to know JC in real life and I know that this is a dilemma for him. Best thing would be to call in sick that day I think!! (Or if ya want I can replace ya!!)

I know JC too and sports aren't his strongest suit. Why don't you offer to ref? you do wear black a lot.

If you don't play regularly, you probably shouldn't start with a game against another company unless it's just being played for a laugh. In the last place I worked I used to play a 5aside game and always remember one of the people there telling me he didn't like playing against people he knew/worked with cause he always felt he had to hold himself back with tackles and things!

On the other hand I never used to play soccer until a friend of mine talked me into it in my first job & I'm playing two games a week now. Still crap mind [)] but the run around is good!

I know this thread is ove a year old but its of interest to me as I'm trying to get people interested in playing soccer.

Doen't look good that the last guy who tried to organise a friendly game not only failed to play the match but left the boards!! :-s

Did you play that match JC??

This whole - "be a man and play the match" is a load of rubblish!! If you don't want to play the match tell them you don't play - end of. I know plenty of guys in work who not only don't play but hate soccer!
