Was out in Dublin at a Lesbian (gay friendly) night - "KISS" in Shelter Vicar Street. (well done Pauline - you LOOKED FAB!!!)

It was a great night - DJ Fluffy! Good Venue! But the thing that got me thinking was there were 2 slow sets!!!

Bearing in mind I was in the middle of an extremely romantic weekend with my boyfriend, after meeting the parents etc, but is it something that should be in clubs. Or is it feeding into a notion that gay men can only be intimate in a sexual way; that men cannot be romantic (WHICH IS BULL!) When I was single I thought the same about slow sets and gay clubs when I was at the PRIDE Ball in Jury’s.

What do yee think?

Slow sets = you can escape making an ass of yourself on the dancefloor

Kylie's SLOW is a brilliant slow gay anthem. It's orgy-tastic.

I dunno if it would work in Cork. Can you picture a slow set in the Other Place? The three couples there would dance together and everyone else would line up by the Pick-Up Wall waiting for Godot...

But it might also encourage the Drunk and the aged as they could then hold each other perpendicular

A slow set would be nice once in a while!

I like the idea of slow sets as one can enjoy them with a partner or a friend.

Slow sets are great.
For one thing, it saves on the rather embarrasing situation where you go to chat to a girlie, seem to be getting on great, and then her big scary girlfriend comes back from the bar/bathroom. With the Slow Set, you know who's taken and who's not, and since a lot of the single people are just gonna sit down for the slowset, you have the perfect opportunity to go talk to 'em )
Also, if you've been boogying all night, y'know, shakin your funky stuff on the dancefloor for the past hour, you're gonna get tired every so often. The slow set gets rid of the terrible dilemma where you're nearly falling over and are going to die of thirst if you don't get to the bar, when it's 2.25 and you gotta get that last pint in, and al of a sudden they start playin your favourite Kylie song ever.. But if they play a slow set, you can crash out for a bit, sit down, get yourself your pint, don't have to gulp it down while running to the dancefloor for something you HAVE to dance to.. it's all good!

pick up wall in the other place? wheres that? i think this slow set thing is a gr8 idea. but what i h8 sometimes in the club is the way they ruin perfectly good numbers with mixes! scrap that like!

I totally agree - some songs should NEVER EVER be mixed, stuff like "Crazy in Love", to name just one, are best left alone

I like the idea of a slow set, don't think there is anything wrong with them in gay clubs.[)]

Wouldn't it be great if there was a gay club where people had to get dressed up to go to, with little tables, a real live orchestra and a huge parquet dancefloor? I don't like nightclubs in general but I think a 1940's-style nightclub would be so cool. Men in tuxes, women in... er, tuxes... does anyone agree?

Sounds great; a change from the scene. But you should've been at teh PRIDE Ball in Jurys, Cork this year. It was just like that! Hopefully this years will be just as good!
