Vomitvision should only be restricted to second-world EU wannabes, sort of like how Ireland was in the eighties. It's just so... ...common.

france is atomatically in the final, they never have to compete in the semi.

France, UK, Germany, Spain are always in the final, they pay the most the broadcasting network so they are guarenteed finals

I love eurovision, come on guys, it has spawned some greats, my name sake Celine, Abba, Dana, Buckfizzto name but a few its not the same in the last few years but its so kitch, its just a laugh and fun, alto I think the UK have taken the joke a bit too far this year, and as for the irish entry, its good but NOT eurovision......

And just a note, Celine didnt need eurovision to boost her into the european market, she was Fab without it.....hehehe

The same can be said for 99% of television. The main reason to watch it is to have a laugh :)
It only happens once a year so I don't know what the complaints are all about. I mean Celebrity Big Brother, and various other reality TV shows are just too awful to even watch and they are on for months on end.

Yes the songs being chosen are being picked over a few months, but its not as if they show the entry contests for each country, all you see 90% of the time is the finished project on the night of the contest.

You don't have to watch it, its not like there isn't 300 other channels. But don't take this as a criticism, you are entitled to your opinion. I just don't understand why people get so upset by it, blink and its all over ;)

Well well well !!!!!!

What a great show.......streets better then Athens last year and I was there !!!!!!

Anyways loads giving out about the Eastern bloc voting but having watched the performances last night I really cant agree.

For me

Serbia,Slovenia,Turkey,Bulgaria, and Belarus were always going to progress because they had both good singers/performers and mst importantly this year GOOD SONGS

Whilst Jazz / Blues are not to my taste Hungary really blew me away A fantastic vocal performance.Moldova again great vocal but not what I would go for.Latvia whilst old fashioned was brilliantly sang and had a great melody.

Gerogia I liked on cd and I thought her vocal was good but I felt her frock and backing dancers didnt really do anyhing to help.

My only "issue" was FYR Macedonia. Now whilst I liked this on the cd the live performance was poor and the english chorus again did not seem to work well.I had this down as a definite qualifier during the week but last night was lack lustre.

Now for those "FAVOUITES" who failed to make it.

Switzerland sorry but desperate live both presentation and vocal

DEnmark thought this might have get there but his singing was dreadful

Netherlands great performance but very average sing

Norway again good singing but very old fashioned song

Cypus I thought they might make it but she looked demented on the screen and really over sang.

Malta too much going on to concentrate on the song

Portugal was good fun but not strong vocally or material wise

I do think this years winner will come from the semi

The lesbians from Serbia made the hairs stand on my neck as did the Slovenian opera lite effort

Good stage show from Turkey and your man was kinda snoochy !!

Latvia could be the dark horse winner very striking

But you will have to watch for Russia's very sugarbabes- like track and of course Verka from the Ukraine if they go for novelty.
Great music in this.

I think the Irish song is good but a lot will depend on Cathy's vocal but I dont think it will bomb like most people suspect.Dont see it winning though.

If you put me on the spot right now I will go for ..............................

SLOVENIA.

For the first time ever I picked the winner. Yay, go Serbia, go Jeanette Cranky look-alikes everywhere. It was a well written song. Hairstyles sponsered by hot rollers & Ellenet. Did you notice one of the backing singers (on your one's right) looked like Mrs Foreman from That 70's Show?

That trapeize artist in the interval nearly plumetted & gave me a panic attack.

ure embarrassed? well im in therapy after it, DERVISH, she looked like a mupet with her tennis elbow dance and was she speaking english? irish? some EASTERN EUROPEAN language? they were SHIT! and a disgrace to the nation,

BUT!

Its not their fault, its RTE for sending them and even asking them to perform on behalf of the country, a bunch of backwater hicks who need speach therapy, so mad at the show tonight, but i do think the best song won out, its was great, granted she looked like HARRY POTTER AND THE PUSSY CAT DOLLS!!!!

It was a disgrace, not one western european country in the top 15 (although one could argue that Greece is western european). Neighborly voting at it's very worst this year.

Although i will say that the song that won is my favorite of all the songs this year, some of the rest of the tip 10 did not deserve to be there.

Bring back the jury vote!

Our only score of the evening; 5 points from Albania; was apparently awarded by a back-up jury as there was a problem with the Albanian phone network!

A good show but more countries and the truncated voting section really highlights the massive effect of neighbourly and diaspora voting. I for one think that if moves aren't made to counter this Western Europe will lose interest and the contest as we know it could be lost.

This would make me sad.

Just proves that Ireland would of done better if all the countries had a jury vote.

I actually think Dervish were good (not great) and they looked good visually. It was a huge improvement on 'Donna and Joe'. We didn't deserve to come last, there was alot worse perfromances.

And the UK's song was brilliant and as good as the Ukraines novelty pop, if an eastern country had the same song it would of done well.

Denmark was my favourite followed by Norway and they didn't even make it to the final. You could hear loads of boos at the semifinal. We are not the only ones pissed off.

All the big western countries contribute all the funding, there is definitely going to have to be a change.

"I'll be your Drama Queen tonight!"

Something must be done. Neighbourly voting and diaspora voting is ruining the whole thing.

I mean, we gave Lithuania 12 points for the 2nd year running. Did anyone else vote for Lithuania?!?!?! AWFUL! and Latvia 10 points. Trust Ireland to give points to the countries which moved them above us and left us in last.

The jurys need to be brought back...if just as a joint system with televoting - combining the scores from both to get the overall votes from each country.

Ireland did not deserve to come last...not by a long shot. And the UK too should have done so much better.

But the winning song was good, and i loved the russian song. Having said that, if either song had been sung by a western nation then they would not have done half as well as they did.

Alas I didn't have money on it. I never ever gamble so I ended up missing out on what could've been a pretty penny.

Actually I went to watch the "show" in the Idle Hour last night, a bit of a gambling pub down on the docks, and the poster they had up for the last few weeks had the line "Get into Serbia at 10/1"! A friend of mine was telling me they picked the winner last year as well. Definitely I'll be down there a few weeks in advance next year and will bet a few euro on their prediction!

That interval show was excellent I must say! Was wondering about the trapeze myself as I didn't spot the safety line.

Given a choice between Serbia & Ukraine, think I'd prefer the Ukrainian one. Too bad about Ireland but I don't think it's really about the song any more instead a combination of how good a show you put on along with which Eastern European country you come from [;-)]

I thought the Latvian song was one of the best songs of the night. The vocals were very good as was the song. The may not have been vissually appealing but it is a song contest!

I though the Russian performance was very dissapointing, it's a gr8 song but they weren't that good on stage, i'm supprised they did as well as they did.

It's not the number of Latvians - it's the number of Polish - they weren't in so they voted for Latvia as they would have at home (according to Ryan Tubridy and guests this morning).

I agree that some form of Jury voting should be brought back, maybe 50/50, they add up their points and the top 10 get the points, in case of a tie then the televoting decides.

We didn't, we gave Lithuania 12 points we gave Latvia 10 and 8 to the Ukraine...

Now we all know how many foreign nationals live here so of course they are going to vote for their own country or a next door neighbour, it stands to reason....

It's Demark i can't understand.. I love that song i think it's fantastic!!! . Even if i am alone in thinking it i don't mind...We will never win again with the way the voting is done now not in a million years..The Serbian song was a very strong one and i'm glad it beat the Ukraine, it didn't have one word of English in it either, so there you go...Till next year folks in Belgrade [:-X] [:-X]
