According to reliable sources an existing bar off Patrick Street shall be going all Pink in the new year when it comes under new management as a result of a change of lease( I know which one it is but hey where would be the fun in that[8D])!!!!So hold onto your hats girls and boys we are going to have more choice!!!The competition can only be good for Cork and Patrick Street will surely be the gayest street in Ireland!!![D]

but was that not a gay(friendly) bar anyway, not much to celebrate there

Maybe it's The Vineyard as it is kind of hidden away from Patrick street. It would be better if it was out in the open on one of the main side streets.

just as long as its not down a narrow little lane with feck all lighting i dont mind

It's "The Oyster."
So instead of a GUBU style bar we're getting our own version of The George. For The Oyster to be a successful gay bar/late club it will have to destroy Taboo (in it's current guise). Let the games begin.

Oh God, here we go.... Handbags at 10 yards.
Nothing wrong with a bit of competition 'tho.
I really hope they do try to bring in those in the shadows

Any news on who is behind it ?

Competition is good. I just hope that we don't end up with two bars within two minutes of each other going for the same share of the market. Personally I think Cork needs a GUBU style bar more than our own version of The G.

Aw come Amnesiac.... Do tell... Whos behind it ?

damien

Isn't it owned by the same crowd that own the Classic, the Raven and Cleavers ?

LeBaron

Now that would make a lot of sense.
The guys have always been extreemly gay friendly

I just hope the new bar is gay and not gay-friendly. the gay-friendly places are never as popular.

Yes indeed how does he???...its supposed to be the Oyster alright!!!...dont know what kinda style its supposed to be ...though a front lounge rather than a GUBU would be better!!! (though they are the same owners) Front lounge is very chilled and comfy!!

Well, if it can be wheelchair friendly it would be great with a wheelchair loo too. Oh as well as a low seating area.

be happy, cork is getting a gay scene/village of sorts, if it grows, it would be unique in being on the main drag, so to speak.
another pub, late night venue of two, it could push itself as a gay weekender. hmm?

No none of them, one may argue the bodega is, but in my great opinion its not, the club is the most wheelchair gay accessable venue Ive been in. Club one is good, although its not totally gay, but there is a step to get on the footpath in order to enter the venue.

i just wish the clubs were more friendly i very rarely go out there because im always treated like shit when i do an besides after writing that letter my so called friends pissed off so now im pretty much stuck indoors all the time it sucks big time

I'm pretty sure the oyster has a disabled toilet. Was in there a few times.

The people who own the Classic, Raven and Cleavers also own the Wash and the Bailey. Not the most gay-friendly places in the world.
(This is not to say the people are not gay-friendly, just a note of caution)

True... However the RC church at one point owned shares in a condom company but that did not mean, necessarily, that JP was slipping one on every 5 minutes.

Myself and the bf went into the Oyster the other night for a beer. I'd forgotten how big and spacious it is. I hope they don't change things too much when the turn-over happens. I like the decor, kind of ornate but also tacky, a bit like The George methinks. Surely there's only going to be room for either it or Taboo? One of them will surely fold.

damien
13th December 2003, 01:51 AM
Oh I think Taboo has cornered the market for Tacky. Why not have a gay bar thats *shock horror* beautifully designed with subtle colours and shading giving an altogether more comfortable environment. I mean the George is a dump, which reminds me og good old Sir Henrys which pretended to be nothing more than a dump with loads of space and great music.

Model the bar on the Front Lounge and I'll prefer it ober the non-gay bars in Cork.

KTS
13th December 2003, 02:38 PM
Well yes that would be another good approach too. Whatever they do though, it'll no doubt be better than Taboo, which - apart from all the other things I detest about it - is just too fucking SMALL.

Andor
13th December 2003, 07:37 PM
Agreed.
We've had enough of Tacky. Front Lounge is the business. I say scrap the cheesy 70's and 80's music (okay not all of it!!) and give gay Cork people some style.

Even if they want for a GUBU look ... or a, failing everything, LOAFERS look. At least Loafer's is nice, bright, clean, and fairly spacious.
