Wow, then even more welcomes! [:-D]
Cork is a nice city to live in, and there's plenty to keep you occupied.
Our gay scene is small compared to Dublin, but then compared to the rest of Ireland we can quite fortunate. [;-)]
Do chat to the locals here, plenty of people make friends from here.
We should be having a meet-up sometime soon where you can meet a few of us [:-D]

welcome PeterMck! i've moved on to dublin at this stage, but cork's like my adopted home, and you're very, very lucky to have ended up there, you'll fall in love with the city!
Some do's and don'ts for ya:
Do:
Lennox's Chipper!!!!
Freakscene
Mizzoni's pizza, yum!
Ruby's on Friday, Instinct on Saturday (it's like Mass, go every week!)
Loafers, Tom Barry's, & Franciscan Well, savage beer gardens!
Trek to Mahon point (if you have a car, or are scoring someone with a car, otherwise don't bother :) )
Trips to Kerry, Limerick (stab city, but sure its fun!), Galway & Dublin frequently!
Travel by Train
Go to GC meet ups, they're fun! (just don't show up late/drunk [:-))])
Don't:
Date boys from Galway or Clare
North Side
Freakscene
Travel by bus
ever under any circumstances fly aer arann!
Pull 'an Invincible' or 'a Spiller')
Spiller
Also note that if you're going to book a flight somewhere, just book it from Dublin. ryanair doesn't have a lot of variety departing from cork, and Aer lingus is often expensive!

Welcome :) Working in UCC will give you the chance to meet loads of people for sure!
Having been in there last night would agree about the 'Well; both that it's a good pub & that it's on the North side!

Don't worry I'm fully intending to... [:-P]
I've already discovered the 'Well - it's just great to be able to drink beer that isn't one of the usual three stouts. Although I'm living off Sunday's Well Road so I'm starting to get a bit worried from some of these comments!

Ahh you are fine! That's the "old money" part of Cork, and also where our beloved Bootyzilla resides.
