Karen Noble and John Creedon in “Dusty – The Concert”

NEC Gleneagles, Killarney Friday 18th of July, 8pm

Cork Opera House, Saturday 19th of July, 8pm

“Dusty – The Concert” revisits and celebrates the legend that is Dusty Springfield. From her early smash hits with the Springfields, through the great chart successes of the 60’s and 70’s and onward to her hits with the Pet Shop Boys and her enormous success on the soundtrack of “Pulp Fiction” and other movies – the show traces the odyssey of Dusty from stardom to despair and back. It celebrates the music, the passion and the vulnerability of the greatest diva of them all.

Karen Noble has earned huge accolades for her breath-taking performance as Dusty. She is noted for her startling ability to recreate the white soul voice of the great Diva herself and for the emotional power she brings to her performance. And of course to recreate the ‘look’ that made Dusty an icon. Her moving & soulful renditions of the great ballad standards and her rocking, driving reprise of Dusty’s soul hits never fails to bring the audience to its feet.

John Creedon, hugely popular radio star, is the narrator. John leads the audience through the musical and personal odyssey that was Dusty’s turbulent life. John brings presence and panache to the story of a life that has much in common with grand opera. Dusty had early chart success with the Springfields, followed by the smash hits of her solo career. The 70’s were a long night of the soul as she battled with drink, her own identity and the ruthless male world of show business. Her triumphant return as a gay icon in the 80’s and as a major recording star with acts like the Pet Shop Boys was ultimately curtailed by cancer and her courageous battle with her illness.

Dusty’s life traverses not only major musical landmarks but also many of the key political issues of those decades. She was the first artist to take a stand against apartheid when she was deported from South Africa in the 60’s. She championed the Tamala Motown stars such as Diana Ross, Martha Reeves, The Temptations and Smokey Robinson – all unknowns in the UK until Dusty headlined their tour in 1964.

The first part of “Dusty – The Concert” sees John Creedon narrate the extraordinary transformation of shy, London-Irish girl Mary O’ Brien into the great white voice of soul. The drama of her life is punctuated by a string of her own hits – ‘I think I’m going back’ – the hits of the Springfields – ‘Island of Dreams’, ‘Silver Threads’ – and the hits of Toms Springfield’s protégés The New Seekers – ‘Georgy Girl’, ‘Morningtown Ride’.

The second part of the show presents a non-stop storming performance of Dusty’s greatest hits. “I Only Wanna Be With You”, “Son of a Preacher Man”, “Wishin’ and Hopin”, “I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself”, “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me”, “I Close My Eyes”, “From Russia With Love”, ‘What have I done to deserve this’ and many more.

From convent girl to soul diva and popular music icon - the story of Dusty has it all, a rollercoaster of passion, emotion and great, great hits. Karen Noble and John Creedon with the all-star band and backing singers present a memorable night in the company of one of the greatest stars of them all.

“When she came out as Dusty, she took my breath away”
- The Observer

“She is clearly blessed with the same white soul voice of the icon herself and vocally soared through all Dusty’s greatest hits. Ms Noble’s attention to Dusty’s vocal detail is tremendous and at times is eerily like the legend herself”
-The Evening Post
