I bought it. I so love that show [)] David may be the dullest character on tv, but he's also the most interesting of any character on tv [D] (you have to watch the show to understand).

Six Feet Under is my second favourite TV series of all time... haven't seen the final few episodes of Season Two though... which I felt didn't QUITE match Season 1...

missed a lot of the season 2 episodes, the ones I saw though, I thought were excellent. Apparently they're well through season 3 over in America actually so we're well behind, would love to know how that was received.

Season 3 led this year's Emmy nominations as far as I beleive. And a major cast member is rumoured to be killed off at the end of season three... name>>>Brenda. The show has won a lot of accolade for it's portrayal of gay men and gay life too.

Yeah David is a great character. Also I think Brenda (Rachel Griffiths) is easily one of the strongest and most complex female characters on a modern TV show.

i.e As fucked up as the day is long.

I adore Six Feet under. I think Nikolai and Ruth are so funny.

And Nate is so charismatic, if I was straight I'd so fancy him u know?

BRENDA, BRENDA, BRENDA!

That's one of the great things about Six Feet Under; the best characterisation on TV. Each of the main characters is depicted brilliantly, they all show greath strength and weakness, they are complicated unlike the paper thin characatures that dominate TV today, Brenda, Nate, David, Ruth et al feel like real people as opposed to characters in a TV show. Which is why we love 'em.

I love all the characters. Claire gets on my nerve a bit from time to time though. The actors are outstanding, especially the inclusion of Francis Conroy as Ruth and Rachel Griffiths as Brenda (a friend of mine saw that Rachel was in it and said "say no more, I'm hooked"). Brenda was at her best in the first season I think when she was providing Nate with red herring after red-herring (the tattoo on her back, the weird phone calls from her brother, the implication that she burned down the house across the street).

Nate looks so gorgeous, especially for a 36 year old. David is really good-looking in a strange way, think it's the puppy-dog eyes. Am kind of wishing Ben & David got together in the second series - there was good chemistry between them. I loved the bit in the bathroom where David got a bit over-excited after his first date (no don't think that you sick-minded people [p]) and was reciting phrases in his head along the lines of "christmas greetings from ben & david", "happy holidays from the cooper-fishers".

23rd July 2003, 01:14 PM
Happy holidays form the Cooper-Fishers is such a brilliant line. The acotr who plays David is much better looking, but straight, in real life.

23rd July 2003, 01:27 PM
Yeah the combed to perfection hair makes him kind of freaky and evil looking especially when he's in his scrubs and sewing up a body. I always thought he was much better looking in those just out of bed shots or when he was in casual attire.

amnesiac
23rd July 2003, 01:36 PM
He has an incredibly fit body... really hidden in the undertakers uniforms. Claire, Brenda and Nate are both quite attractive too and none of them in a completely conventional sense... now Ruth... FOXAY LADAY!!!

redbulljunkie
23rd July 2003, 02:41 PM
Yeah, David has an exceptionally good body as has Nate. Any time I see Nate going for a run on the show, I always feel inspired to go run a few miles myself [)]. Apparently he's quite athletic in real life as well, which would explain his youthful good looks. Keith has a really nice face but his body's a bit too muscular for my liking, he looked better in the first series when he had less muscle. Frederico is gorgeous and a really strong character, despite being a homophobic cunt.

Had an argument with a straight friend of mine who claimed Claire was minging looking, couldn't understand why he thought that (it's not like he goes strictly for conventional beauty). He thinks Brenda's gorgeous though which is good.

Weird enough that Ruth was portrayed as a sex symbol for older men on the show. I suppose she does have a beauty about her if she only dressed up a little.

Brenda is gorgeous and the character is so sexy. She brings such erotic charge to the role, her eyes are capable of a really mischievous naughtiness.

I think Claire is pretty too but I'm past my teenage-angst-princess phase, lol.

I was watching Muriel's Wedding on TV last week, and was surprised to see Rachel Griffiths playing Muriel's best mate. It's always weird seeing an actor's old work after they become famous, like George Clooney in Roseanne, or Courtney Cox in that old Bruce Springsteen video.

Clare would be goodlooking if she smiled once in a while.

Or Courtney Cox in "Masters of the Universe" [;)]

Claire is so sexy this season. Last Season I thought she looked ill.

I mean, she looks ill now, but last season, it looked like SHE should be the one laid out on the slab.

I've literally only seen five minutes of this show so am really looking forward to buying a copy on DVD as soon as I can afford to )-. I love owning good TV shows on vid/dvd so I can watch as many episodes as I want to, and when I want to. I hate following shows on TV, hate waiting a week or two, and I usually miss them. Sometimes I take a chance on shows (Will & Grace) and just buy them on video & dvd having never seen them before - and am usually a huge fan then. I think I'll love this one!

Recommended shows to buy on DVD and/or video

WILL AND GRACE
FRIENDS
THE SIMPSONS
TWIN PEAKS
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS
GIMME GIMME GIMME
QUEER AS FOLK

oh my god I've been watching the 3rd season, and I regret to say it's gone to shit! The first episode of the season was good enough apart from nate & lisa's happy little family life (i'm sorry lisa you're nothing compared to brenda), but after that it just got worse and worse. It had better pick up soon. I can see why the americans are loving it though, it's very dawson's creek these days with the dialog.

For example That bit at the start when the girl gets knocked down after her friends decide to play a joke and pretend to be attackers, and then in the funeral home afterwards giving this big speech about how them pretending to be someone else was like this big metaphor for life (isn't it horrible when they steal claire's monologue?). God I felt like throwing up at that point. The bit where david was being awkward at the resort was good, but that bit in bed with keith later shouting we're gay etc. was another shit scene. The rest didn't even bear commenting on.

at least the first season dvd though can always serve as an example of perfection, even if they never produce anything good again

Who's Lisa? Where's Brenda? No don't tell me, no do, oh my god, Brenda, where are you? I love you.

I just noticed you can buy bootleg DVDs of Season 2 and 3 on ebay - I'll prob end up doing this when I can afford to.

I know, I've been burned (geddit? [8D]) by something similar on Ebay once.

Does anyone know is Season 2 has already played on RTE/Network 2 or if it's going to be re-shown?

I bought a DVD copy software on the net ( DVD Detective ).
What a waste of $35.... So far it has taken me 4 hours just to get
the files onto my harddrive, god knows how long its going to take to
burn them onto a CDR, better spending the cash on an original

The free tools like Smartripper, Divx/Xvid, virtualdub etc. give much better results (although it does still take ages to compress the files) than most of the commercial software, although there's a learning curve with them

Yeah saw that. It looks like she's going to be whiny for a while though - "my life is complicated". I hope she gets over the nympho-recovery thing, that turned out to be pretty boring in the first episode of the series.

I really regret missing the second half of season two. It's proving hard to cath up during season three. Would love to see ho Nate's character developed throughout season two... and how he went from that to this.

News about the upcoming fourth season.

Change afoot on 'Six Feet Under'

When Six Feet Under returns to HBO on June 6, the Fisher clan will be thrown into "life-altering experiences and sexual experimentation," promises executive producer Alan Poul. "Our intention is to return to the lighter, unpredictable tone of the first two seasons."

Rachel Griffith's Brenda will have two suitors this season her neighbor (Justin Theroux) and Peter Krause's widower, Nate.
By Evan Agostini, Getty Images

Expect familiar faces in guest roles

• Mena Suvari, who worked with show creator Alan Ball in the movie American Beauty, joins the cast in the second episode as an art-school friend of Claire (Lauren Ambrose). "Mena's character is a provocative performance artist and a strong feminist who doesn't care what anyone thinks," Poul says.

• Ben Foster returns as Claire's bisexual boyfriend, Russell.

• Claire's former boyfriend Gabriel (Eric Balfour) may not be as dead as viewers were led to believe, though this is unconfirmed by the producers.

•Charlie's Angels Full Throttle bad guy Justin Theroux returns as musician Joe, who will strike up a serious romance with Brenda (Rachel Griffiths). Poul says to expect a love triangle with Nate (Peter Krause) as the season evolves.

Poul says David (Michael C. Hall) and Keith (Mathew St. Patrick) will try to save their rocky relationship by pursuing separate life paths. For Keith, that means bodyguarding a Britney Spears-type pop princess, played by Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Michelle Trachtenberg. In the third episode, the pop star makes a "guest appearance" on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, with DeGeneres playing herself.

Ruth Fisher (Frances Conroy) will face a more complicated life with the return of sister Sarah (Patricia Clarkson) and mischievous friend Bettina (Kathy Bates). She also will have to deal with new husband George (James Cromwell). She will "realize she might not know this man as well as she thought she did," Poul says.

As for the imaginative opening deaths, Poul says one will involve an interaction with a sex toy.
