Hey all! I'm planning to come to Cork, Ireland for a work-abroad program. I'm really excited because I've visited Ireland and LOVED it, however, I want to know what the gay scene is like. Cork- Gay-Friendly or No? Gay clubs/pubs??? Large or little gay population? Also, I'm curious about getting a flat in Cork, so if anyone would be willing to give me some advice about it (best/safest area for cheapest cost...etc.) that would be excellent. Advice on what jobs will actually HIRE me and pay well would be nice too O) Look how needy I am[I]! Hope some peeps respond, feel free to email me directly at Kaci7420@yahoo.com...I'm most likely to see those messages. Thank you! [D]

Oh dear, do you want the bad news or the bad news? Jobs are very hard to come by in Ireland at the moment, especially summer jobs. You'd have a lot better luck if you had some kind of college degree. Visit www.daft.ie a great website for finding accomodation. Generally the nicer areas of the city tend to be on the south side, though there are a few shit spots (being careful what I say here because I tend to unfairly criticise some areas and give too much praise to others). Cork has 2 gay pubs (one about 10 mins walk from city centre, another in the city centre, but quite small and cramped) and one club. Cork's a fairly backward place when it comes to opinions of gay people but it's getting better and there are a lot of friendly people who don't give a shit what way you are. There can be a good sense of community on the Cork scene as well because it's so small.

cork's gay scene is definitely friendly imo, but it might be smaller than what you're used to.

a lot of visitors to cork get jobs in the IT field, try apple computers in holyhill. but i guess if you're on a work-abroad programme, then you don't have any qualifications yet, in which case you might have to accept something that doesn't pay very well, at least temporarily.

this site has accommodation ads too, which might make it useful if you want to share with other gay guys.

enjoy your stay, hun!
