How are they supposed to have Fever in the Bodega? Where are you supposed to dance?

Fever is only running at The Bodega for July while The Savoy sorts out its licensing. But it should make a nice change.

I just wonder, what will happen at 11.30 when we arrive for Fever and the straight punters are still there? what will they make of it?. Does it mean if your in Bodega from early evening you get into Fever for free? I'll ring my friend Sarah at The savoy and find out.Check
back later and i'll have an answer for you.

Cheers goalpost... I'm presuming John Broz opted for the Bodega given he has a weekly night in the White room upstairs...

They say it's only for this month but who knows?,Bodega is very quite on a Sunday night,so this maybe a life line. The pink Euro.

Yeah it wouldn't be the first time the Savoy has turned its back on it's gay clientele either...

The Savoy owners own the Bodega too. Thats why its going there. I doubt John Broz has much say in it at all.
The Savoy turned its back on the Gay Community the last time I thought due to monetary reasons. The night wasn't making them enough money. Maybe if they promoted it more and tried it out on a Saturday night it might be a better success. A sunday night is very restrictive for many people that have work on a Monday.

considering when they tried a "gay-friendly only" night on a sunday night it was a complete flop, there must be a fair bit of money in the gay market.

Workout was making plenty of money until the Savoy tried to turn it into the straighter "Strictly Handbag" (ironic as the name is).

Well I hope now they've learned their lesson.. We are a target market, so we are. Ya don't want to piss us off..

Handbag was a Dublin concept, i remember going a couple of years ago
in Ri Ra, it was ok then but the Savoy version was, well you know.
The fact That fever happens proves the point the is a market for a queer disco in a decent venue. I agree with Damian Saturday would be great but you can't see them giving up a big name dj for a queer disco.Don't know about you lot but i just can't go to the club and more i.e. the Other Place,it's so shit. Funny thing just listening to U2 at the moment and the song beautiful Day, it's funny when you but your own meaning on some of the lyrics of a song, Bono's just sang " take me to that Other Place"?mmm always wondered about him, does he swing? be funny to see him there some week.

I always used to think about that when hearing that song. Noone could sing with that much enthusiasm about the actual club though.

I agree, they can be so fickle. Isn't it a type of homophobia really? I always found them (the staff in the Savoy) rather nasty to gay people on non-gay nights too... this going back ages of course, I haven't been to the Savoy since Workout was still going.

Yeah them Lauching Fever is almost as bad as queer bashing. Them making sure they got another venue for Fever so at least theres some quality gay night is reminiscent of Stonewall.
Never had any issues with the Savoy staff.

One great thing about Fever in the Bodega is good beer ! Tiger Beer, Erdinger and Warsteiner to name but a few.

25th July 2003, 01:55 PM
I wonder will they serve Erdinger in those plastic pint glasses the Savoy use?
damien
25th July 2003, 03:32 PM
Maybe they'll have plastic versions of the special Erdinger glasses.

I'm so stealing some if they do... although I'm sure I'd get a glass one if I asked nicely. I think the Bodega bar staff are among the friendliest in Cork.
Speaking of which, I've never had a problem with the barstaff or the security team in the Savoy.

I think they'rea ll still nursing their post FEVER heads. Actaully, now that I come to think of it, I can count the gay club nights I've been to all summer on one hand. Had the door slammed in my face at the Other Place last time I went after work. Not much of a clubber but when I do go I like to be in nice surroundings, with nice people and a good, friendly atmosphere.

Post Fever head is under reconstruction ;
Very good nite, they could do a lot worse than keep the venue, in a funny it had echos of the original Telefunkin

I know they had limited capacity on the night in question but not getting in (after a long night working in a gay bar and promoting the venue) is not what irks with me. It was the total lack of any manners and utter rudeness that disgusted me. Plus a colleague had told the door staff we would be along and had drinks bought for us.
