View Full Version : What's going on? Let's get it all out in the open!

I've never been the most popular person on this site (by any means) but I have great respect for it, particularly Admin. And members such as Bootyzilla, LeBaron, Solice, Bo-Selecta, Proud Mary 1980, Slayer. I'm not sucking up to anyone (what have I to gain?); it's just the truth.
Anyhow, let's hear it - just WHAT is going on, folks?
I used to post alot here but due to a lot of personal and health problems (of which I have no intention of discussing) I haven't been on this site more than half a dozen times so far this year, and probably posted less than that.
Tonight I decided to sit down and enjoy it, but I can't understand what's happening ... Damien saying farewell, Amnesiac resigning as moderator, half the active topics locked, people bitching like crazy, almost everyone apologising for something or other ...
Is there something in the air? Is the gay population of Cork experiencing a Prozac shortage?
Come on, folks, let's get it all out in the open! Just what's the problem?
And please please please please, no bitching or fighting!

Prozac shortage..ha ha!

I personally feel that the site has gotten very bitchy, a lot of members seem to be out for mod blood.
Please, I'm still Slayer, just cos it says Moderator next to my name doesn't mean that I'm not human anymore. Please don' treat me any different.

ya its gotten extremely bitchy in places alright! I put my hand up and admit it... im probably responsible for a lot of it! and im getting sick of it as im getting a bad reputation and ppl are probably afraid to say anything to me!
But its not completly my fault... certain other members here seem to enjoy the ranting and raving, and cant accept it then when they get an argument presented to them!
i think i would like to see the bitching somewhat reduced in the future... its great fun for a while and even amusing, but it often gets way out of hand and people get offended!
ive no problem witht he mods here but when they get this 'high and mighty' attitude. like 'im better than u' they should definatley have their positions rebuked and the control taken away from them! people have to have the right to say what they like! regardless of what others may think!
Admin in fairness is very fair, and any topics he locks are done for good reason! pity others couldnt follow his guidelines!

I think many people now post to this site and have little respect for its terms and conditions and the spirit of the boards. The art of trolling on internet message boards is well known... continously expressing antagonistic viewpoints in as inflammatory a manner as possible in order to agaitate the members of an online community and cause havoc. I've also seen a horrible, vile, personal thread directed against a GC.com user started which caused immense hurt.
I think the nature of online communities is that their membership is dynamic and changes over time. At the moment, a lot of the old regular posters who contributed to some great debates, gave advice when it was needed and reviewed books, movies and television no longer post. There appear to be more people posting for self-attention and spamming with little constructive contribution to make to many of the threads they insist on posting on.
There are lots of other online communities that have a friendlier atmosphere and where trolling is dealt with more effectively than I think is done here. But there's no other forum to serve the unique discussions of the entire queer community of this city.

see what i mean... certain members here cant resist posting bitter, pointless rants! and direct 'copy and paste' action from other websites isnt exactly what we want to see here either.. fair enuf, make a point back it up with a link or whatever.. put to paste something onto a thread and then let it there waiting for responses? thats spam!
i think the purpose of this thread is to try and difuse this narky, cat-fight type arena that has become the GAYCORK FORUM! and that particular post that caused so much hurt... was at the time dealt with, appologies were made, the thread deleted.... and warnings issued! so can we just drop it please! pointless bringing up points that have long since been resolved!

I've been quite busy lately and haven't had time to keep on eye on things.
But rest asssured we will NOT tolerate bitchiness and any such posts will be deleted as a result.

well said admin... no-one is holding it against u and its definately not down to u to control people posting mean comments! this should be something that people are aware of themselves. sure theres always gonna be personaity clashes and consequent problems... users should be diplimatic and mature enuf to be able to deal with such issues without resorting to attacks.... i know i for one have a problem with one particular user of the forum, but in future im going to make the effort to just ignore the ranting and not retaliate cos as ive experienced, its a pointless exercise trying to resolve things....
however i must say, i enjoy the postings and comments of 99.9% of the users here. its interesting to see the viewpoints of other people

You may vent your opinions on this thread, afterwards bitchiness and trolling won't be tolerated.

There are a very very small number of folk who seem to take great pleasure in stiring shit and expressing extreme views in the most belligerent and derogatory way.
I have no problem with the expression of extreme views as such, some here do it very well, and with some considerable class.
I do object when it is being done with the very obvious motive of causing offence. That is driving some good people away and I think it is very wrong.
I handle this by simply abstaining from immediate follow up posts, or by totaly ignoring the content of the offensive post - works for me.
Stay cool buds

Yes, it is... we should talk about kittens more often. Cute little fluffy kittens and their innocent eyes and those lovely little claws that will make ruin of your lovely new curtains in ten seconds sharp! And before you know it they've grown up into these CREATURES that insist on marking every part of your house as their territory and decide dead rodents and small birds are sufficient compensation!!
Believe it or not, I am actually a cat person, so you can only imagine how I feel about dogs...
So back on topic... let us all agree to disgree and realise that what we post here isn't going to result in the end of the world....

Saw that today too Rec - looks damned cool!
We may just have to organise a GC meet up for it when it eventually comes out here.

All the old skool posters who used to post here during the golden era of GayCork.com are rumoured to be now posting on the Queer.ie Forum. Its really quite and peaceful there. So quite there's not a hint of bitchiness.

well i think the narky vibes have been resolved here... happy posting people! i think stricter policies should be in place from now on regarding users... and also, when someone send an offensive pm's, what advise is there? copy and paste them to a new one and send them to admin? or can he check each users account if directed to? as the copy and paste may encourage others to make ones up!

Hmm interesting Tori quote Mr Int - My sis used to think she was saying
you thought that you were divine, yes well, so did i
I prefer my sis's interpretation!
Ooh there's those websites that post funny interpretations of songs that people think people are saying hmm someone should make a new thread on that
Ack rambling - back on topic Rec
Em yes - IMHO the bad air is clearing here like water in a zebra mussel filled lake - now we're all good except the Swan mussels amongst us!

It's definitely "bomb" not "devine" on the Spark lyrics, but I agree with you Rec your sister's version is better - and makes more sense! But you know Tori, her lyrics rarely make sense...
