Well Taboo and !nst!ct have their own dedicated threads so why not one for the grandaddy of them all, Cork's original gay bar and many would say the best, Loafers of Douglas Street?
Isn't it great to have a bar where one can go on weeknights ofr a quiet pint? I do think the backing music could be more varied and diverse though!
Haven't often gone to Loafers on a Sturday night but when Broz is playing there is usually a great atmosphere! Sunday nights are also cool, and us LGBers are there in force. As we are on Wednesdays. And Fridays. And Mondays...
I think the staff in Loafers are lovely. Really warm and welcoming. It's such a shame it's that tiny wee wlak away from the city centre. So many people seem to think that crossing the river is entering no-man's land.
Do you think Loafer's could improve the entertainment? Aside from the birthday and Pride week, when is the last time there was an entertainer performing, or a karaoke night?

What JC? - the intent lecherous glare of fifty year old men in wife beaters or the aromatic smell of "Room Odorisers" mixed with CK 1?

Well my respect for Loafers went south when i saw that they had HMM BOP on the jukebox. Course my mate then proceeded to play it, so haven't been able to show my face there since (yeah that was us!)
Seriously though, I really like Loafers, it's become the pub you're not afraid to bring you're straight mates to. Nice crowd, most people are there just to relax and enjoy themselves, and you don't feel like you're being sized up by the local queenie patrol anytime you move a muscle! Long may it last!

Loafers serve Erdinger... but not always in the correct glasses. So 6/10.

I like Loafers! I think the reason it's got a bit of a bad rep is because it's maybe not the most welcoming bar for younger gay men - but it was always more popular with lesbians and couples. I like the atmosphere and the people I meet in there - but the maddening heat is very often too much.
Mind you, I sleep with windows open even in December so maybe that's just me -)

Went there on Paddys Day, for the first time in years. It was quiet, but the barwoman (owner?) seems nice, the place has a more relaxed vibe than previously. Weekends maybe you have people ou for a laugh, or on the pull. But it's a nice space... and anywhere that plays AC/DC can't be all that bad. [)]

TPT is the bizarro version of me. Both fab, but from opposite ends of the social ladder.
