Tonight Mary anounced in Taboo that it's going to close it's doors on Sunday (29th Feb). She also mentioned something about re-opening elsewhere!

No, from what I hear it's not closing down, but it is relocating. Competition! Thy name is Cork Scene -)

any one think that mary's announcement may have been a huge plan to get everyone into taboo tomorrow night as they may be expecting less punters because of the start of alternative miss cork???
we all know that it would be a great idea for them to make the extra well needed money but would mary go that far is the question???

She is eville, fruitees of the devillle. Why would she go that far? Taboo needs to move out of that stuffy lane into something more spacious. But where me ponders?

Nah, I don't think so. Don't know Mary (or any of the people working there) but in general a tactic like that would only alienate them. I mean it'll be fairly obvious come Monday if they didn't close and people would feel kinda cheated. Ergo, less likely to go there, especially when Instinct opens because then people will have an alternative that they can go to.
However, far more intrigued by the fact that it is closing/relocating around the same time that Instinct will be opening (give or take a few weeks). Then again, I have a naturally paranoid mind so I'm probably reading WAY too much into this (God knows, wouldn't be the first time that's happened!)

Shit, the man has got a point.
Although then again, admin/amnesiac said they've been talking to the managment, they would have told us if it was Mary.

wait so... as of today its closing? Only been there the one time. When is this new place opening. Wouldnt this mean that theres only going to be one gay bar so for the next few weeks?

Or an even more intriging thought.....
What if TabooTwo opens up at a new ( non shellfish ) location and the owners of the building that houses Taboo decide to keep it open as a gay venue......
Then there were four.....
Implausable... maybe

So as of tomorrow, Cork has one gay bar.
One.
Hohum.
Interesting.

Back to the good old days so! One wonders what will happen in the meantime to its usual client base. Will they make the trip "across the water" to visit Loafers or will they disappear until a similar venue opens?
And by the way, did Mary mention anything about why they are relocating? Probably something to do with leases and stuff I imagine, but I'm in my Sherlock Holmes mode at the moment! (That's Sherlock, not Katie!)

The pub building was bought out by people who ownded the adjacent property in order for a major development of the whole area.
(as I heard directly from Mary herself)

Awww, bless! Is the big long bus ride too much for your poor little legs??
Cork is like the smallest city anywhere ever. It takes almost a whole ten minutes to walk to Loafer's from Patrick St. Get over it!!!

I think it's a mental thing. People don't wanna cross that river. Although if rumour is to be believed... might be more than one gay bar across the river soon...

That's just a rumour we started for no other reason than boredom. I doubt very much Taboo2 will open anywhere near the other 2 venues... that'd just be silly.

No I'm talkign about a real rumour as opposed to a silly one. There's a premises across the river... bus station/ college of knowlege direction that is being touted as the new home of t2.
Then again so is Doyle's, Loafers, the Coal Quay, the new UCC Gallery of Modern Art, that place where all the stabbings in Knocka take place, Mary's living room etc.

i think they should just let taboo die a happy death and end it at that! i mean, if they relocate, it just wont be the same! it will be like freakscene moving to club one! same people, different setting... just doesnt work. reopen sure.. but under another name! and shur.. are'nt we getting this new gay pub anyway so whats the big deal!
