Christmas is just around the corner and New Year's is almost upon us, so of course its time for every media outlet going is working on their 'year in review/...of the year' content as a means of filling schedules.
This means that everyone is g After all it has been an eventful enough 12 months, and now most of that time is over and done with it seems fit to look back at some of the more memorable moments.
So kick back, crack open a bottle of bubbly (or a bottle of jack, depends how your year went), dig into that tin of Roses and let's take a look at some of 2011's highs and its many lows...
Badasses of the Year Award - Seal Team 6
Back in May Osama Bin Laden finally met his end, ultimately thanks to these guys. Being relatively unknown beforehand but now the stuff of legends, they've become so infamous that Disney trademarked the name 'seal team 6'. Rumors that they are led by Chuck Norris cannot be substantiated at this time.
The Barbara Walters 'What?!' Award - Fox News and Eric Bolling
This category was really tightly contested this year, but the award has to go to Fox News and anchor Eric Bolling. Branding the Muppets as communists and brainwashing children, you really couldn't make this stuff up.
The 'Hit the Road, Jack' Award - Fianna Fáil
There's little point in going over old ground as to the reasons for the award (economic mismanagement, public expenditure waste, etc. ). Instead let's focus on the positive: After this year's election they have only 19 TDs. With any luck that number will be down further at the next election and this political party can be consigned to the history books. What, recent poll numbers show them climbing up again? God damn you Irish electorate!
And that's the end of part one, come back tomorrow for part two for my highlights of 2011 (for what they're worth... which is very little ).
