Hello again! Well looks like this post is a little late. My apologies, blame family (and Skyrim). But anyway, better late than never, here's part three of my personal year in review!
A Good Year for... Protesting
There's certainly been a lot of protests this year, between the Arab Spring earlier in the year to the more recent Occupy movement and protests in Russia the general sentiment is that people are just not happy. Well at least it got them off their arses to do something proactive!
A Good Year for... Barack Obama
This one will surely raise an eyebrow or two, what with the constant pillorying from Republicans and setbacks to legislation courtesy of Congress.
However there are two things to consider. The first is that Obama finally delivered on his promise to bring American troops home from from Iraq, so a minor personal victory there. The second comes courtesy of the Republican presidential candidates, each of whom have worked so very hard to ensure that Obama gets reelected. Honestly, would you vote for any of them?
A Good Year for... Anglo-Irish Relations
There was much hullabaloo in the build up to Queen Elizabeth's visit to Ireland, much of it about whether she should visit at all (coming from the usual quarters).
By the end of the visit there was still a lot of excitement although for all the right reasons. There were several highlights to the trip such as the Queen's visit to the Garden of Remembrance, Prince Philip's longing look at a pint of Guinness, when the Queen made her speech at Dublin Castle and tossing in a bit of cupla focail, and of course her visit to the English Market here in Cork as seen above.
Seemingly having a smile on her face the whole time, the Queen certainly seemed to have had an enjoyable time here. A successful visit, and hopefully the first of many.
And so ends part three of this year in review, dedicated to some of the 'good' points for people and such. The next installment therefore has to deal with some of the 'bad' points, 'cause symmetry! So until next time, toodlebye.
