It is aint exactly busting with gays or lesbians for that matter.But just thaught I'd ask and say hello to all you fellow students.Since we don't have an lgb,not that I went

I went to CIT... I did not join as i was not out and my course was very male dominated... in my opinion there is a big difference between the attitudes of CIT and UCC Students...their courses are structured differently with Cit almost a school like atmosphere where Ucc is more Live and let be ... or maybe I'm completely mad and misread the place...

UCC is not that bad, the powers that be that run the university seem fairly liberal compared to other universities I have stayed at. The student union is supportative and people take an interest in maintaining and running the LGBT society.

The major social difference between UCC and CIT is that UCC is a fairly arts orientated college, therefore the college itself is going to be a lot more open than other colleges where the emphasis is more on (for want of a better phrase) "production line" courses, practical degrees/diplomas. This is reflected in their respective LGB(T) societies. Its going to be much easier to be out in a college that is so relaxed about most ways of life and most rationales of thinking and so for that reason the UCC LGBT soc has gone pretty much from strength to strength and without knowing much about the CIT LGB I can only assume that this is the reason that it didnt flourish. The same has happened with colleges like UL, there is much more emphasis on industrial courses and practial qualifications that there is un UCC. This has had a severe effect on the population attending the LGB meetings.

I know this is majorly pedantic of me but who I am to go against tradition: Arts may be the biggest faculty but the money is being pumped elsewhere. UCC is well known for its engineering and science faculties. So I don't think that is the major reason for such a disparity in the strengths of the various LGBTs, it may be a factor that UCC has such a large arts faculty but I don't see it as the overriding factor.

i do see it as the overriding factor. the fact that the arts faculty is so large only serves to diversity the student population. The fact that the money is being fed elsewhere doesnt have appeared to deter arts students throughout the years and the point i was making was that it is the student body that determines the strength of the LGBT society, and when the majority of the students are in the more traditionally laid back arts faculty it makes the process of having an LGBT society that much more simple. That leads into the fact that the industrial sciences are typically male orientated and so for all intensive purposes it would be a little harder to be out in such a course.

But i'm guessing that you'd see more gay boys walking around the quad in UCC than you would see them skipping up the hall of B Block ...

I think Popeye was in C Block...( He claims hes course was gay anyhow)
