That's actually a brilliant idea. I've started cooking for myself in recent years and i'm still shit. So i need all the help and inspiration i can. As of now i have nothing to contribute. Stir-fry chicken with mushrooms n onions?? That's as advanced as i get.

You see Invincible, thats exactly why I started the group. Food is so important, it keeps us alive for a start LOL. What would you like to be able to cook? What types of food do you like to eat?
I'd love to eat more fish and beef and lamb. And maybe some italian food. But i find it impossible to buy small enough quantities of ingredients for little ol me. They normally come in huge family-size packs/jars n they go off in days. Oh tis sad to be a lone eater . Where's my boyfriend when i need him??? Oh yeah, he's imaginary, and is USELESS in the kitchen.
Buy as much fresh stuff as you can. Invest in some tupperware/freezer proof containers etc. You can freeze meals and keep them for a month. Very handy to heat in microwave whe you're in no mood for cooking If you wanna learn Italian, just emphasise simplicity in your dishes. I'd say invest in a few cookbooks that have some simple classics or I can dig out some recipes for you. [@};-]
the trouble with cooking italian is the availability of ingredients. it just isn't italian if you can't get good prosciutto, pancetta, mordadella, mozzarella, provolone or ricotta you can get most of them if you look around, but its not something you can pick up in tesco (i haven't seen most of them there anyway). my nana gave me a cook book with italian-american recipes before i left...most of them are really challenging though! but on the plus side, it emphasizes using whatever you have in your kitchen: eggs, flour, peppers, etc. there's a really great shop waaay back in the english market (near where the fish are) that sells ravioli and gnocchi. throw them together with some meatballs from the butcher on the other side, and you've got a great, easy to cook meal (christ i sound like an advert). personally, i'd loooove to do a proper stir fry, but i'm cucinaphobic (and just plain lazy!)
Do what I did and your own personal chef! (I should highlight that my husband is a chef and I am not Dolores McNamara trawling the Internet in the guise of a gay man!)
I'm definately joining this group. I love cooking & am now morphing into a low fat thing to go with my Weight Watchers. Anyhow I've one hell of a library of cookbooks including lots of Delia & every book by Nigella Lawson who must be bowed down to & worshiped.
Indeed, good Italian ingredients are difficult to get alright, but there are some recipes where some ingredients can be subbed. Obviously this means you sacrifice some authenticity but its a small price to pay for getting the basics right
i was spoiled with amazing italian(-american) dishes growing up [0] which is a far cry from where i am now. one of my dinner's last week was spinach and corn as its all i had in the house
You need to keep EGGS dear, at least you could've made an omlette out of the whole shibang & gotten some protein in there too. It's like one of those adverts for Lion Eggs.
i love the flavours of italian food unfortunately i detest pasta so most italian food is out for me! I adore asian food and i make a savage thai green curry. I'd love to learn more recipes which include fish tho...

Yes a meal out would be good, was good fun before. Just as long as its not somewhere like cattle trough "Amicus" in terms of it always being crowded like a cattle market and having most of their tables too close together. Or "cafe bar delli" choices of overpriced pasta, pizza or salad, wow what choices! I do like asian food mainy chinese and as Coleen will testify I make nice prawn toast I like baking aswell but find I have to be on my own in the kitchen with no pressure around me, meditation baking lol.
Well if we are talking Italian. How about Casanovas in North Main Street? My fav resturant in Cork? Not sure which is the best Asian.....any tips Mark?
mmm Casanova's is great. I love cookery, I make a mean stirfry and some lovely bacon and mushroom pasta dishes. nyom nyom
