Can suggestions be made on this thread again? It would be very helpful. I can't think of anyone right now :(

    Social group ??

LGBT business - is this for any business ran by an LGBT person?

    Volunteer of the Year?

    National Event/Organisation of the Year?

    Awareness campaign of the year?

Public representative? Oh how about Jerry Buttimer, he's lovely

Why am I the only one asking all these questions and commenting on this thread???
  3. Invincible Girl Aloud

I had Jerry Buttimer on my mind for an award too. And I didn't even check the categories yet!

The rest I'll have to think about.

Jerry Buttimer is a nice fella and does his job very well, but he's not the only gay in the Dáil...also his own party is not in favour of marriage equality. I think they are the only ones at this stage. If he could change their policy, much like Micheál Martin has changed Fianna Fáils (which in itself is epic) I think he should get an award then.

Kathleen Lynch from Labour (Minister for Equality) seems much more consistent when it comes to gay issues.

I'd be happy to see him nominated however, along with Kathleen Lynch and Micheál Martin.

LGBT business....erm.....Crop Shop anyone??? (please sense the sarcasm!)

As for Social Group- Gaycork.com should be nominated without a shadow of a doubt.

****Edit: I now realise that Fine Gael voted in March to prioritise the discussion of marriage equality at the constitutional convention (whenever that's happening)

Jerry Buttimer is not the only gay in the Dail but he's the first and only openly gay TD from Cork or Munster. That's a big deal, especially for the Cork LGBT awards. But he doesn't just deserve it for being gay; he's been a big supporter of LGBT rights for years, well before becoming a TD. His party's policies shouldn't come into it, but for the record Fine Gael is not anti-marriage equality.

I'm not saying Kathleen Lynch isn't worthy, I think she's brilliant. I just think Carraigrock is dismissing Jerry Buttimer too harshly.
  6. Carraigrock Blah Blah Blah

I didn't mean to dismiss him and I hope it didn't come across that way.
Also, I now realise that Fine Gael voted last March to prioritise the discussion of marriage equality at the constitutional convention. I'm not sure if this means they are "Pro-marriage equality" or not, but at least they are open to discussion after being vehemently against marriage equality for so long.

However I disagree with Invincible, his party's policies SHOULD come into it.
    They are what he represents.

Also, I nominated Cork City Council and their historic decision, becoming the first local authority in the Republic of Ireland to vote yes for marriage equality.

Most certainly but be sure to post them on the Rebel Awards website.

    EUREKA!!!!
I had a total brain wave at 2.30 this morning. I thought of who my 'Volunteer of the Year?' would be. One of our own - Curley!
His is involved in everything, dont know how he does it all and I know for a fact that anytime anything new is starting up everyone wants him involved.
It is almost impossible to get people to help with stuff. They make a lots of noise and promise you the world and then disappear. Curley is reliable, dependable, and all around brilliant. So there!!!! Vote for him

P.S. I know he is involved with the awards too so not sure is that matters or not??

Nominate who you feel deserves the award!

A committee member was nominated and won an award last year.

There are procedures in place that if a committee member is nominated then they are excluded from that section of the meetings and minutes of that award.

    FIX!!! :p
  11. louislestat Queen Bee

Thank you :) Got a few more ideas now

Social group = Gay Cork.com especially as it is 10th anniversary year

LGBT business = The Quay Co op ( don't think they have ever won?)

Volunteer of the Year = 'Curley'

National Event/Organisation of the Year? = Cork City Council on becoming the first local authority in Ireland to vote yes for marriage equality (Robbed that from Carraigrock)

Awareness campaign of the year? Maybe the above nomination should go here instead, these last 2 confuse me :(

    Public representative? Jerry Buttimer

Aww thanks Louis! There are many others in Cork who have been volunteering longer and done so much work for the community so there should be no trouble finding some nominees for that category!

    Keep nominating folks!

Cork's Red FM are going to do a mini segment on the awards at about 10.30am tomorrow morning.
Tune in! (provided nothing more news-worthy pops up in the meantime!)

I'm still totally confused over 'National Event/ organisation' and 'Awareness campaign'??

I'm lost, they seem to be very open titles if you know what I mean? Baffled so I am :( HELP anyone?

Alas it didn't make the radio today as the topic of soccer versus girlfriends was far more important! :p

It's been rescheduled for 9.30am tomorrow.

I want to but I'm still thinking about 2

Why is no one talking about this???? Is anyone else here going to vote???
  20. Invincible Girl Aloud

Admittedly, some mominations were easier to come up with than others.

Oh I'd say plenty people here will vote, but they won't necessarily post in this thread.
