I picked up a copy of elviras box set, thinking it'd be the actual movie staring Elvira. Elvira was an 80's Icon, not so big here but huge in the USA. She was most popular for "hosting" horror films, kinda like a presenter before the movie started and she'd come in now and again during hte film to throw a comment. Check her out here, I think you'll love her: http://www.elvira.com/home_1.html ;):)

But the boxset turned out to be a collection of old horrors (all the orignals) which included:

    Dementia 13
    Carnival of Souls
    House on Haunted Hill
    Night of the living dead
    The little shop of horrors
and The brain that wouldn't die

All very old, classic horrors in black and white. My Favourite is either Carnival of souls or House on haunted hill with Vincent Price :D

I ordered in Elvira Mistress of the Dark the movie from England and it's dark witty comedy makes it a favorite of mine.
Saying all that though I'm partial to the odd vamp flick and have seen just about every vamp flick going, except the orignal black and white hollywood Circa 1940's, still looking for a copy.

Horror comedys would have to Hocus Pocus Bette Milder is a scream in it and some of Tim Burtons films are particularly creepy, ie Coraline and Nightmare before Xmas.

So many more I could tick off :p Anyone remember are "You afraid of the dark"? a tv seris years ago on tv :D

mine would have to be the original WICKER MAN,such a weird film!also, the first HELLRAISER,intelligent adult horror that has a kind of strange sexual vibe to it.also THE EXORCIST 3,the best in the series i reckon, sooo fucking creepy!also i recently saw a film called MARTYRS that i reckon any horror fan should check out,it's actually more sophisticated than your usual horror film, very sad film and INCREDIBLY disturbing!

The Wicker Man is a great Film.....so realistic and frightning. Also The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is quite disturbing, even after all these years. its got a very raw feel to it.o_O

I love Horror Films. I'm a big fan of the original Halloween and Friday the 13th.

My all time favourite though are the Hammer Horrors. I have all of Christpher Lees Dracula movies and all of Peter Cushings Frankensteins. You might laugh at some of the special effects but they is still something creepy about them and they are beautifully filmed

I love anything with Vincent Price too especially his Roger Corman/Poe movies

I do enjoy seeing big breasted beauties running around castles in floating night dresses.

My scariest all time movie is Deborah Kerr in 'The Innocents'. I actually 'cry' with fright LOL

My brother is the huge horror fan in my family, im not really into it that much. The one thing ill say is that slasher films that rely on blood and gore and cheap frights like the monster/bad guy jumping from the shadows dont really interest me. The films i've seen in the past that have had the most impact are the ones that use atmosphere and tension to make you freak out. Make the viewer imagine the worst is going to happen then make nothing happen, ratchet up the fear. Play on our imagination. The first time i saw the original Ring where she crawled out of the tv made the hair stand up on my arms, there was something subtle about her movements that were unnatural. I also saw some of 1408 with John Cusack and there were parts of that, watching him slide towards paranoia and fear that really got to me

Goosebumps was kewl actually. and so was, does anyone remember Are You Afraid of the Dark?

always used to scare the crap outta me too!
  14. Ros_boi space cadet

oh i loved the new Halloween, it had some real disturbing parts but it looked awesome! some fav horrors would be the shinning, wrong turn, road kill, american physco, the first saw, (would you include zombie and vampire flicks?? is so..) george a. remaros day of the dead, dusk till dawn, queen of the damned, 28 days later anything really except b-movie monster movies

i didn't really like the exorcist foe some reason..

For me, it has to be The Silence of the Lambs probably borderline thriller/horror but still an absolute brilliant film, love Jodie Foster in it!
Also love the Nightmare Before Xmas ,the bogeyman character used terrify me when I was younger.

    I love horrors!

    Loved The Shining.

House on Haunted Hill and The Descent are good too.
  18. existo solvo is not the Messiah,he's a very naughty boy.

yeah THE SHINING and THE DESCENT are outstanding too!

My all-time ultimate favourite horror movie is The Exorcist, and it's disgusting that Ellen Burstyn didn't win an Oscar for her portrayal of Chris McNeil. It's proper Cinema that happens to be scary, as opposed to a horror franchise that happens to be on in the Cinema.

A close second for me would have to be Candyman, I'm not much of a one for contemporary US horror but this film still makes me upset - and I've seen it loads of times. I think it's the music, the central performance by Virginia Madsen (WHY is she not in more films??!?!) and the outstanding direction.

The Woman In Black is a 1989 ITV movie that is hard to find on DVD (although it is available) and I urge you to go and get it: it's high-budget, high-class and completely enthralling. It's based on a tiny Susan Hill novel of the same name, which is one of the most affecting horror reads I've ever found.

All-but-the-last-ten-minutes of Rosemary's Baby are outstanding, Mia Farrow was so so good in it and Roman Polanski is some kind of genius director.

Both the Japanese and US versions of Dark Water are excellent, but for very different reasons - and, shockingly, it's the US version that sticks more closely to the original Japanese short story. I loved the ambiguity and the bleak tension in the original, but Jennifer Connolly's excellent performance in the US remake made up for the here-and-there Hollywoodishness.

I love love love The Shining. I think this was Jack Nicholson's last great film performance before he went on to a career being cast as Jack Nicholson playing Jack Nicholson in Jack Nicholson pictures.

I think I connect with Shelly Duvall in "The Shining" for the same reasons as I did with Ellen Burstyn and Jennifer Connolly in the above movies, there's something so upsetting about the relative realism of their performances... ...actually, now that I think of it, Deborah Kerr in The Innocents, and therefore Nicole Kidman in The Others, made me love those movies for the same reasons.

And, if you haven't ever seen it, go order "The Innocents" off Amazon right this minute. It is outstanding. It's like "The Others" without the manipulative twist, and no special effects whatsoever, but it is the only horror movie that has ever managed to draw a (tiny) scream out of me.

Rec is a Spanish movie from 2007, it's 75 minutes long and one of the best ever Zombie movies. See it!!!!!

Also, look up a rare old classic called Don't Look Now. Donald Sutherland, Julie Christie, Venice, and shit in your pants from tension. Fabulous.

yeah burstyn was robbed of an oscar for the exorcist, she was outstanding in the film.she was also robbed for her performance in requiem for a dream.
