I will vote Norris 1, and the rest at random, bar Mitchell who I may not vote for at all. I'll just have to see.
I'm only voting 1 & 2, as I have no interest in the rest! My #1 will go the the person who did great work for our cause in the 90's and my #2 will go someone whom I heard give an inspiring speech the other night.
#1 Norris (yay!) #2 Higgins (my effective vote, as I don't see Norris making it sadly) #3 Davis (by default) #4 McGuinness (just don't like him) #5 Dana (out of sympathy) #6 Gallagher (a dishonest FF gobshite) #7 Mitchell (a pure gobshite) And don't forget to vote!
I don't intend voting for him, but just for the record I do hope people are aware that the supposed €5000 donation to FF that Seán Gallagher supposedly took on July 1st was proven to be a false allegation, since said cheque had already been lodged to FF's account prior to that date. Gallagher had no recollection as the event hadn't happened. Which for me has done another candidate out of a transfer vote...since there is a candidate who has been funded 'in the past' by far dodgier sources. I don't like how many people brand Gallagher as dishonest. It's not hard to go through all seven candidates and find things that will label each dishonest. Davis going on about how she brought the Special Olympics to Ireland.....dishonest. She was one of many who achieved that. Norris, letters, QED. Mitchell.....claims to be Presidential material. McGuinness.....just how long did it take to come clean about being a leader of the IRA? Dana.....take your pick. Higgins.....is a politician of some years' experience. You don't get ahead in a political party without being proficient with manipulating the truth.
1 Higgins (as he is by far best candidate in the field) 2 McGuinness (I like him, if he won I wouldn't be unhappy) 3 Norris (to make a point and vote down to leave Gallagher blank) 4 Mitchell (to make a point and vote down to leave Gallagher blank) 5 Dana (to make a point and vote down to leave Gallagher blank) 6 Davis (to make a point and vote down to leave Gallagher blank) I didn't give Gallagher a vote as I despise him. Voted no to both referendums.
I voted this afternoon at the Eglantine girls school on Douglas Road. This was my 4th or 5th time voting here and it was no surprise for me to see lots of old ladies about the place. It's been the same every time. They always seem really pleased that they are getting the chance to vote. There was a very good mood about the place.
Geographical considerations mean that I can't vote today, but if I could, I'd only give votes to three candidates: Norris, Higgins, Davis (in that order). As for the referenda, my vote would be No to both. Hope everyone has or will cast their ballots today!
I brought ID first thing this morning just in case Went in the door and it was 'Hi Louis'......'Hi Louis'......'Hi Louis' 'How are ya boooooy'? so much for needing ID! Great atmosphere up in Gurran this morning, the joint was jumping with Grannies and me
Just back now. In the spirit of having to vote in the Blarney St school I wore a plastic Dunnes jacket, grey drainpipe trainers and giant bright white Nike runners. Sheena Feena fail, Gerry Ginger Adams. You'll never be the powerless-in-name-only-boss of me.
Yep. It won't even be close! Gay Mitchell is having a nightmare. The Sinn Féin representative on RTÉ One now claiming that SF are now the second biggest party in the Republic is being a little disingenuous. Dana may not come last in Cork South Central - she can thank me later for my number 1.
Once the transfers start being counted then his lead will get even larger. That's when, as Xenvik called it, "my effective vote" and many others votes will be counted. I'm very happy that I gave Norris my no.1 and Higgins my no.2 votes. I'm even happier that I left Gallagher, Mitchell and Dana with nothing. Now I hope Norris gets over 12.5% in order to recoup much of his election expenses.
Does anybody else think that if there's a no vote to both referendums, and if Gay Mitchell doesn't get above the 12%.....the future for Enda Kenny could be very bleak? Alan Dukes was pushed out of Fine Gael following Austin Curries disastrous performance in 1990. He received 17% of the vote then.
