Hey guys,i've been debating for the past few weeks maybe directing a play in the coming months featuring an LGBT theatre group.I have a play in mind although im not sure if the writer would be looking for money for rights but the way i'm leaning at the moment i have a bee in my bonnet about doing some play.Myself and Admin were chatting last night and he amongst others reckons i should set up a new LGBT theatre group.so i'm just posting here to gauge interest from people in the possibility and any advice ye could offer regarding contacts or anything for such a project.Again i havent 100% made up my mind on it yet but im veering towards it.
I think its a great idea. Would you be a bollocks director abusing your cast? I'd make a lovely Ophelia though
Was one not just set up by coleendawnagh? I know it was a musical group but maybe a collaboration would be better then starting a whole new group?
im debating maybe doing a production of Martin Sherman's play BENT or maybe a stage version of A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. Louislestat,i definitely wouldnt be a bollocks director lol,ive been on the receiving end of from one or two directors a couple of times and i know what it feels like so i definitely wouldnt be subjecting anybody to that.and i think you'd make a fabulous Ophelia as well !or an even better Lady Macbeth! Fair Bad,this theatre group would be drama based,not musical theatre.I'll leave that in Colleen's capable hands.

WOW, I think BENT would be very powerful on stage! And you wouldn't need too many people to stage it?
The UCC LGBT used to stage a play every year back in the day! I remember "Juliet and Juliet" and an excellent production of "Cloud Nine" in The Granary.
Yeah I set up a group but its musical theatre. However, there is a drama theatre group called Rainbow Theatre, who have staged various productions over the years inclusing panto and plays. Perhaps you could have a chat with them? Captain Ass was involved in this as I recall
okay guys i've decided that im going to give it a shot and try and set up a theatre group.i must make a few phonecalls re any possible financial requirements for putting on a production but if there aren't any problems in that area it's a goer.i was thinking more about it today and i have a few plays in mind but im not sure what the story is regarding rights and all that.my top choice at the moment is BENT,next then would be A CLOCKWORK ORANGE,then Tracy Letts' BUG and after that im considering two Harold Pinter plays,THE HOMECOMING and THE BIRTHDAY PARTY. If anybody has any suggestions though feel free to make them and put the word about the forming of the group too will ye as i'll be needing actors of course lol.If all goes to plan myself and Muggle will be holding auditions and if anybody else is interested (and Louislestat i'll hold you to your offer!) please feel free to let me know.
just giving ye an update on things guys.i'm having a meeting tomorrow regarding the setting up of the group and am looking at a theatre space.im still deciding on which play to do but it will more than likely be one of the aforementioned plays once there are no difficulties regarding rights and all that.but the everything's goin ahead and i'm committed to getting this group off the ground.there will be auditions held once things are more solidifed.once everything is in order i will let ye all know and if anybody's interested in being involved in any capacity or wants any info please feel free to PM me.and please get the word out there about the project guys will ye,thanks ! just wanna also thank Admin,Muggle,Fone and Clive from The Other Place for their help and support so far.
