i know that Louis Lestat is going to be interested in this! Kate Winslet to Star in Mildred Pierce Source:Variety August 14, 2009 Kate Winslet will star in "Mildred Pierce," a miniseries adaptation based on the James M. Cain novel that Todd Haynes is writing and directing, reports Variety. Cain's tale was famously turned into the 1945 film that won Joan Crawford an Oscar for the lead role of a bored housewife who gets into the restaurant business, an enterprise that leads to backstabbing, romance and murder. Haynes directed I'm Not There, Safe and Far From Heaven.
I like Kate Winslett but WTF????? This is the most stupid idea of a remake I have ever heard. No one can surpass the excellent performances of Joan Crawford and Ann Blyth in the original. I really hope this never sees the light of day. Words fail me. I am beyond disgusted. Why remake why of the ultimate film noirs? Now everybody stand back and wait for Bootyzillas comments
could be good though openly gay director todd haynes also did the 50's melodrama inspired FAR FROM HEAVEN a few years back as well as VELVET GOLDMINE,I wouldnt write it off yet although admittedly Joan Crawford's shoes are pretty big ones to fill and the original is considered a classic.
LOL Fair play. I was going to comment on the ''considered'' part too but I am far too drained at the mere mention of a remake. The bile is burning the back of my throat What is Hollywood doing to me? Leave Lestat and Joan alone
jesus whoring christ. Bootyzilla in shockingly uncharacteristic mode: Actually, I think this might be fabulous - I hated Far From Heaven (a.k.a. Imitation of Imitation of Life) but I do adore Kate Winslet, she's a proper actress with honest-to-god talent, and since the original Mildred differed very much from the book version (Mildred in print was a sluttish c*nt, a drinker, Veda's a talented singer, Monty Beragon rejects Mildred for her commonness, etc), a well-made miniseries that sticks to the text might actually be a nice compliment to the original movie. I mean, I love the Joanness and the Noirness of the original; since neither of those things can ever be recaptured again, why not have a go at making a more realistic and gritty Mildred? I'm particularly pleased they're not setting this in 2009 Hollywood, where Mildred is a struggling waitress with a voice of an angel and a heart of gold. Played by Anne Hathaway. Co-starring Zac Efron as Monty Beragon. With Dakota Fanning as Veda. Oh, and Whoopi Goldberg as Ida. Obviously.
I dunno, I just have warm feelings towards a TV miniseries with Kate Winslett that sticks more closely to the original novel. Maybe it's because nobody could possibly confuse the two?
But they would I bet lots of people on here have never even seen the original. The poor unfortunate souls. I need to save them
Who are you and what have you done with Louislestat?!?!?!!! You hate the people on here, just like I hate the people on here! That's why we're such great friends! Come along now, darling, together, on the count of three: "What a fool!".
Edit: According to this site, the miniseries is due to be developed by HBO. That can only be good news! This is the network that brought us The Sopranos, Carnivále, Rome, Oz, and Elderly Prostitute Mobility Show. Hoorah for HBO!!!
I mean the one where the fifty-year-old peanut smuggler was dressed in some sort of weird paedofantasy little girl ballerina outfit and almost got knocked down and killed in the opening credits.
