Just wondering if any of the other forumites were budding photographers & might be interested in setting up a Photography Club?
Always been interested in photography and will be taking my first steps into this in a couple of months Looking at a DSLR at the moe, I can't wait!
I was told about this thread last night and I think it's an amazing idea!! Lets do it!!! I am already part of the CCC (Cork Camera Club) but this sounds like it could be more fun. I have done a few camera courses and I could pass alot of my knowledge on and other members could do the same. We could organise a meetup in town sometime and talk through a few ideas. Who's up for it??
Hey there! I'm free a lot of evenings after 8 or so. We'd probably need to meet up and organise a plan for the club or a plan of what we do every week when we meet. How much about photography do you know?
Not nearly enough tbh, floundering around whilst making the transition between film & digital. My present focus is on Astro, but really just getting used to photography again from a decade away from it.
Oh cool! I have always been into photography but it's only in the past year that I started taking it seriously. Before now I would of always had the camera on auto. What's Astro?
My favorite example of Astrophotograph: At the moment I'm slowly devouring various books & magazines in a feigned attempt to drastically improve.
Hey DGM. I was the same but once you realise what you can do when you take the came out of auto, I promise you'll never want to go back. Your photos will all of a sudden have impact and look a million times better. The thing with auto is that it will always try and get the entire scene into focus. You don't always want this, as you might want to selectively choose what's in focus and what is out of focus so the viewer is automatically drawn to the part of the photo that you want them to instead of not knowing what you're trying to say. Even if you never go fully manual, if you go semi-auto it's a HUGE step. With semi-auto, for eg you choose the shutter speed or aperture and the camera sets everything else for you. I take a huge amount of my photos on aperture priority which enables me to choose what's in focus and I let the camera worry about everything else.
Most of the time I'm running around using manual exposure, which initially was a lot of hit & miss, followed by swearing at myself. So far I've looked at action shots, not sure why but just seem more daunting then I want to deal with at the moment. I've joined Fermoy Camera Club, but its early days & just waiting for the next outing to come around.
hey Kanashimi, I actually don't use manual that much. Aperture priority is what i mainly use and it works perfectly for most of my shots. If I'm shooting a landscape shot though at dusk, I would always use Manual mode as I need to control both the shutter speed and also aperture. I have been in the Cork Camera Club for the past year and I can't say I have learnt all that much. I was expecting weekly tutorials and outings etc but all in all I only have I think 3/4 outings and no tutorials. We did have a few photographers in and it was interesting seeing their work. We also have monthly competitions which I guess forces you to go and use your camera. Do you have a Flickr account? Joined it last year and it's so inspirational. Love it.
Yeah, I've got an account knocking about the place http://www.flickr.com/photos/kaislee/ should be the one.
Absolutely love your star shots! Ever try star trails. Something that is on my to do list now for some time.
Yeah its on my list of things to do, however, I want to get a 50mm F/1.4 & then eventually wrap my head around Photoshop CS5, specifically layers.
I have a 50mm 1.8 and I love it. I have it on the camera pretty much all the time. It's so incredibly sharp and the dof is unreal. I can only imagine what the 1.4 would be like. Maybe we could do some photoshopping in this club as well. I am a qualified graphic designer and could teach photoshop?
Also, what rigs are you running? Canon 1100D, to be upgraded to 5D Mark II in the not too distant future. 22mm-80mm F/3.5-5.6 18mm-55mm F/3.5-5.6 100mm-300mm F/4.5-6.7 List of whats to come once sale of soul is confirmed: 50mm F/1.4 EF 2x Extender And a Macro lens when I get around to looking at them. I've toyed with the notion of getting a telescope, but they're a smidge on the pricy side for anything 1/2 way decent.
